Sean: ‘Simon Wants To Play’

13 September 2012

Sean O’Driscoll has revealed that Simon Cox wants to play against Birmingham on Saturday, despite his midweek injury setback.

Cox sustained a foot problem in the closing stages of the Republic of Ireland’s friendly win over Oman on Tuesday.

It was initially feared the striker may have suffered a broken metatarsal and although X-rays and scans ruled out a fracture, he wasn’t expected to figure this weekend.

But boss O’Driscoll isn’t ruling him out of his plans for the visit of The Blues to The City Ground (kick-off 3pm).

He said: “I must admit the alarm bells rang a little when I heard he had been stretchered off but touch wood he’s bright and there’s no obvious fracture, so we’ll see what he’s like tomorrow.

“He’s desperate to play on Saturday and we were surprised when he came walking through the door this morning.

“I expected him to be on crutches but he walked in fine.”

Tickets are still available for Saturday’s npower championship clash with Birmingham (3pm). To buy, visit The City Ground megastore, click here to book online, or call 0871 226 1980 (calls cost 10p per minute, mobile rates may vary).
