Josh Thomas continued his fine run of goal-scoring form at Under 18 level by bagging Nottingham Forest’s winner in their Professional Development League 2 clash with Coventry.
Thomas scored for the third successive league game as the youngsters beat The Sky Blues 1-0.
But his 15th minute winner – a super strike from a tight angle 25 yards out with his weaker right foot – was one of the brighter moments of a largely disappointing display.
Coach Steve Chettle said: “A good result papered over a few cracks because it was probably our worst performance of the season.
“Coventry huffed and puffed against us without having any clear-cut chances but I was more concerned about how we played, how slowly we moved the ball and how we gave the ball away too cheaply.
“In the first half we had a couple of one-on-ones with their ‘keeper and in the second half, although we still didn’t move the ball well enough, Jordan Palmer-Samuels had a golden opportunity to make it 2-0.
“Coventry’s defence pushed up to the half-way line and Jordan broke through. I thought he was going to try and go round the ‘keeper but instead tried to scoop it over him and it didn’t work.
“I let the boys know afterwards how disappointed I was with the performance and we’ll move on to the next game.”
