Sean: 'Cardiff Tick Boxes’

19 October 2012

Nottingham Forest manager Sean O’Driscoll believes Cardiff are a model Championship side.

The Reds take on the Welsh table-toppers at The City Ground tomorrow (kick-off 3pm) and O’Driscoll has expressed his respect for the set-up Malky Mackay has developed across the border.

He said: “I’ve said to the players – ‘they are probably the quintessential Championship team.’

“If you look at the type of teams that are successful in this league, Cardiff tick a lot of boxes.

“They are strong right through the spine and have peripheral players who can make a difference.

“They work as hard off the ball as they do with it - they get four or five people in the box when they go forward but get nine or ten behind the ball when they’re defending.

“They are the ingredients that you need and we are trying to do the same things here, in a different way - but that’s the model you have to work on.

“They are a team who is going to be in with a shout in every game they play this season.”
