Professional Development Coach John Pemberton was pleased with his side’s 2-0 win in what he described as a ‘good game’ against Barnsley at The Nigel Doughty Academy this afternoon. The Reds Under 21s secured the points thanks to goals from Derrick Otim and Matt Regan either side of the break, and their boss was pleased with the afternoon’s outcome.
He said: “It was a good game and we created a lot of chances. We could have won comfortably, but Barnsley played some good football.”
Otim’s 30th minute strike provided a glimpse of the youngster’s potential, and Pemberton was pleased with the nature of both goals.
He said: "Derrick scored a great overhead kick and I’m glad because he worked really hard and played well. He’s a young lad and he played for the youth team on Saturday so did well.
“Matt’s goal came from a set piece and we know that they are massively important at any level. You can win and lose games because of them. It was good to get one from a corner.
“Jordan Smith made a couple of good saves for us and I thought the two centre backs played well. Thanks to them we managed to keep a clean sheet.”
