Andy Reid met an old friend today as Nottingham Forest played host to Olympic warm-up action.Reid renewed acquaintances with his former Blackpool teammate Sergei Kornilenko, who was a member of the Belarus Under 23 line-up that met Japan at The City Ground in a pre-London 2012 friendly.
The Reds star explained: “Sergei and I joined Blackpool at around about the same time in 2011 and we roomed together.
“He couldn’t speak much English when he first came over and we had to use Google translate to hold conversations.
“But we became good mates. He’s a great bloke and it was too good an opportunity not to pop down to the ground and say hello to him.
“He played a few games up front for Blackpool and showed that he can be a right handful. It will be interesting to see how we performs in the Olympics.”
Kornilenko has been capped more than 50 times by Belarus and is one of their over-age players for the London Games.
For the record, Japan won the game 1-0. They are in action again at The City Ground on Saturday when they meet Mexico (kick-off 2.10pm).
