The Nottingham Forest midfielder underwent surgery in May after being diagnosed as suffering a stress ankle fracture.
Greening who continued to make himself available for selection in the final few months of the season despite the problem, is due to see the surgeon who performed the operation on Friday.
He explained: "The surgeon will take a look at how well the ankle has heeled and hopefully, all being well, I will be able to start doing even more in terms of training."
Greening put his ankle to the test last week when he, and a group of 11 friends, took part in a coast-to-coast bike ride to raise awareness and funds for Dravet Syndrome UK, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of children and adults living with a rare form of epilepsy.
"It was two of the hardest days of my life," he revealed. "The weather on the first day was fine but I've never seen rain like we had on the second. I was almost crying by the time we finished the ride.
"But it was for a fantastic cause and my ankle was absolutely fine - no pain, discomfort or swelling, which is really encouraging."
