Forest Claim Victory Over Chile

31 July 2012

Forest beat the Chilean Under-20 side 1-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at The City Ground this afternoon.

The Reds, who fielded a number of trialists, enjoyed the lion's share of possession in the first half and Guy Moussi was first to try his luck, volleying wide from the edge of the area after seven minutes.

Two minutes later trialist Omar Al-Soma rattled the crossbar with a good header from an Andy Reid corner.

Chile were playing some good football at times and nearly scored twice. Reds 'keeper Khalid Al Rashidi struggled to get to grips with a fierce shot from the edge of the area after 16 minutes and, moments later, he watched as an effort flew just wide of his post.

New signing Dan Harding made several marauding runs down the left and he almost claimed an assist after crossing for Al Soma, but his finish was ruled out for offside.

Fellow trialist Firas Al-Khatib looked lively and some great work down the right wing went cruelly unrewarded on 24 minutes.

A minute later, Adlene Guedioura benefitted from some good play by Reid and Harding but could only fire over from the edge of the box.

Another run by Harding in the 35th minute ended with a fine cross which was met well by Al Soma who was denied by the 'keeper.

Chile continued their neat play in possession and on 38 minutes Danny Collins had to be on hand to clear the ball at his near post after some excellent build-up by the South Americans.

Kuwaiti international Bader Al Mutawa, who had looked lively, limped out of the game through injury shortly before half-time. He was replaced by Robbie Findley.

And just before the break, trialist Jamal Alioui put in an excellent cross toward the back post but nobody was there to capitalise.

There was only one Forest change at half time as Jamaal Lascelles replaced Alioui.

The second half was a much quieter affair. Both teams struggled to gain control of the game in the early stages, but on 56 minutes Chile nearly took the lead after Guedioura lost possession on the edge of his own penalty area.

Forest took the lead two minutes later. A speculative ball into the channel from Collins evaded the defender, and Al-Soma nipped in to finish cutely past the onrushing goalkeeper.

A flurry of substitutions came on 78 minutes, with Kieron Freeman, Karl Darlow, Matt Regan, Lewis McGugan and Jack Andrews coming on for Harding, Moussi, Collins, Al Rashidi and Greg Halford.

Forest received a scare with just minutes to go. Two efforts from Chilean corners had to be cleared off the line, first by Freeman and then by McGugan. The latter could have scored himself after persevering well in the dying moments, but his shot went just wide.

Forest Team: Al-Rashidi (Darlow 78'), Alioui (Lascelles 46'), Halford (Regan 78'), Collins (Freeman 78'), Harding (Andrews 78'), Al-Mutawa (Findley 38'), Moussi (Greening 78'), Guedioura (McGugan 78'), Reid (Moussa 78'), Al-Khatib, Al-Soma.
Scorer: Al-Soma 58'
