Sean O’Driscoll has revealed that his Nottingham Forest side knew exactly what they had to do to complete the turnaround against Leeds United at The City Ground this afternoon. The Reds ran out 4-1 winners after a brilliant second half performance turned the match on its head.
Leeds had taken the lead through Paul Green before a Billy Sharp double put the hosts in the ascendancy.
An own goal and a Dexter Blackstock header soon had Forest out of sight before Davide Somma scored on the break to put a slight dent in an otherwise excellent second half display.
O’Driscoll said: “We shot ourselves in the foot with the first goal – we didn’t react well enough in the six yard box and you just thought ‘here we go – they’re going to make it really difficult for us’.
“But we upped the tempo, the crowd got behind us - which was good - and we had two penalty appeals turned down before getting the goal just before half time.
“Sometimes you have to tell the players what to do but they all knew they had to play quicker, keep the tempo up and run Leeds into the ground. When the players know it, you’re on to a winner.
“Overall, it was a terrific performance to come back from a goal down and a poor performance at Watford. The ability and the character is there, we’ve just got to put it all together.”
