John Pemberton’s Under 21s claimed a double over their Coventry counterparts with a 1-0 win at The Nigel Doughty Academy this afternoon.A first half Robbie Findley strike was enough to secure all three points for The Reds.
Jamaal Lascelles returned to action after a lengthy lay-off and he was joined by fellow first teamers Guy Moussi and Karl Darlow. Regulars Ben Osborn and Jack Andrews missed out through injury.
The first chance of note fell to Findley on ten minutes. He latched on to Moussi’s through ball but saw his low shot turned wide by Lee Burge.
And he went close again on 19 minutes, cutting inside before seeing his shot loop up off a defender and just wide of the post.
Three minutes later, Reece Brown fired his low 25-yard free kick just wide of Darlow’s post before Wilfried Gnahore stung Burge’s palms at the other end.
Findley was involved once again on 31 minutes. The American’s run culminated in a lay-off to Blake but the midfielder saw his long-range effort clip the outside of the post.
Just as the first half appeared to be condemned to stalemate, the ball broke to Findley in the box and he dispatched left-footed beyond a helpless Burge.
A Kieron Fenton cross had the Coventry bar rattling five minutes into the second half and The Reds went close again moments later when Otim was denied by Burge at close quarters.
Darlow then had to position himself well to divert Louis Garner’s near post strike out for a corner before Findley saw two more efforts miss their target.
Forest had dominated the second half and the last chance of the game fell to Gnahore after he had linked-up with lively substitute Adam N’kusu Landu. Burge turned his shot behind and it finished 1-0.
