Nottingham Forest’s Under 18 side made a flying start to their season in the Professional Development League 2 by recording a 5-1 home win over Barnsley on the opening day.Jack Blake marked his call-up for the Scottish Under 19 squad for a friendly against Norway with two goals.
Deimantas Petravicius, Josh Thomas and Derrick Otim also got on the scoresheet as the young Reds ran riot at Wilford Lane.
Academy Director Nick Marshall said: “It was a really pleasing way to start the new season.
“It was 1-1 at half-time after Jack Blake’s opener had been cancelled out following a mistake by Deimantas Petravicius.
“But Deimantas made amends by restoring our lead with a great goal and Derrick Otim really deserved his goal because he worked so hard throughout.”
Incidentally, the game marked the first appearance at Under 18 level of Tyler Walker – the son of Forest legend Des Walker.
