Barnsley Beaten Again

20 August 2012

Nottingham Forest claimed victory in their inaugural game in the newly formed Under 21s Professional Development League 2.

They beat Barnsley 2-1 away from home, courtesy of goals from David Morgan and Jordan Palmer-Samuels.

The win completed a double Forest as their Under 18s beat Barnsley 5-1 on Saturday.

The Reds took the lead after 10 minutes when a Morgan shot from outside the area took a wicked deflection and beat the home side’s goalkeeper.

Barnsley hit back midway through the first half when a cross-cum-shot struck the bar and presented them with a tap-in from close range.

But Forest bagged what proved to be the winner 10 minutes from time. Ben Osborn fired in a driven cross that the Barnsley ‘keeper failed to deal with, allowing Palmer-Samuels to poke home.

Academy Director Nick Marshall said: “Our performance was ok but wasn’t great – we can do a lot better.

“Barnsley passed the ball really well without hurting us that much and we struggled to get the fluidity that we look for.

“We created the better chances in the first half but there wasn’t an awful between the two teams in the second half.”
