Match preview: Crewe vs Under 23s

23 October 2018

Ana Mihajlovic

Nottingham Forest Under 23s will be looking to return to winning ways when they take on Crewe at Alexandra Park in the Professional Development League on Wednesday afternoon (kick-off 1pm).

The Reds fell to a frustrating 1-0 defeat at home to Birmingham City last Monday as they slipped down to 7th place in the league table, but Jimmy Gilligan's side have Wednesday's game, followed by the visit of Bolton to the Impact Arena on Monday, to make amends.

A win could take Forest up to 5th in the league table while their opponents currently sit at the bottom of the Professional Development League, three points behind The Reds.

Under 23s: Crewe 2-1 Forest

25 October 2018

Ana Mihajlovic

Nottingham Forest Under 23s suffered another defeat in the Professional Development League as they lost 2-1 at Crewe Alexandra on Wednesday afternoon.

The Reds took an early lead on nine minutes through Arvin Appiah but they were soon pegged back when Crewe responded well to the goal by winning a penalty. Lewis Reilly stepped up for the hosts as he converted the penalty past Liam Bossin to bring his side level.

Crewe struck again just before half-time through Michael Raines as The Reds went into the break a goal down.

Forest had a glorious chance to pull themselves level when the referee awarded them a penalty shortly after the break. Virgil Gomis stepped up to take it but Will Jaaskelainen in the Crewe goal saved it to keep his side ahead.

The Reds looked to their bench for some inspiration as Yassine En-Neyah and Kostas Megaritis came on to replace Tyrese Fornah and Jake Taylor on 50 minutes before Owen Gallacher then had to replace Megaritis on the hour mark.

But the home side held on as Forest suffered another frustrating afternoon in the Professional Development League.

Forest: Bossin, Richardson, Preston, Taylor (Megaritis 50', Gallacher 60') Ahmedhodzic, Lawrence-Gabriel, Appiah, Fornah (En-Neyah 50'), Gomis, Johnson, Ariyibi

Unused subs: Wright, Harbottle
