Under 23s: Hull 0-4 Forest

3 November 2018

Nottingham Forest Under 23s emphatically secured all three points at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday evening as they defeated 10-men Hull City 4-0 in the Professional Development League.

Goals from Ryan Yates and Arvin Appiah and a brace from Brennan Johnson ensured that The Reds left East Yorkshire with a vital three points after a disappointing recent run of results.

Forest made an early breakthrough in Humberside when Johnson opened the scoring after just nine minutes. An excellent break forward through Appiah was rounded off by Johnson when he slotted the ball past the ‘keeper.

The hosts were forced into an early change on 19 minutes when the experienced Nouha Dicko had to be replaced by Tom Powell, and it got even worse for The Tigers when David Milinkovic was bizarrely shown a red card after appearing to say something to the referee.

Appiah continued to look dangerous for The Reds and he was unlucky not to score on 34 minutes when he skipped past three Hull defenders before unleashing a shot which went over the bar as the visitors went into the break a goal up.

It was the perfect start for Jimmy Gilligan’s side after the break when his side were awarded a penalty after Alex Mighten was brought down inside the area. Yates stepped up to take it and coolly converted the spot-kick to make it 2-0.

Mighten was then replaced by Owen Gallacher, shortly before Forest were given another penalty. This time it was Johnson who took the responsibility of taking it and he confidently smashed it straight down the middle to score his second.

Jake Taylor came on to replace Tyrese Fornah on 72 minutes as The Reds managed the game well, holding a commanding lead. But Forest were not finished just yet as Appiah scored a deserved goal when he fired home a free-kick to make it four, securing a valuable three points.

Subs not used: Shelvey, En-Neyah, Iacovitti
