Under 23s: Colchester vs Forest

11 September 2017

Nottingham Forest Under 23s are back in action on Monday afternoon as they travel to Colchester United (kick-off 1pm).

Jack Lester's side will be aiming to make it three wins from their first four matches of the campaign after wins over Bristol City and Crystal Palace were followed by a thrilling 4-4 draw against Coventry City last time out.

Colchester have had a strong start to the season themselves, winning two and drawing two of their four games so far, and will present a tough test for The Reds' youngsters.

Apologies, this video is unvailable.

Nottingham Forest Under 23s made it three wins from their opening four games when they defeated Colchester United 5-2 on Monday afternoon.

A Gerry McDonagh brace and goals from Lewis Walters, Arvin Appiah and Kieran Hayes secured a fantatsic victory for The Reds in Essex.

Jack Lester's side went in front through McDonagh's neat finish after just three minutes, but the home side were level through Tarryn Allarakhia just after 20 minutes.

The Reds turned on the style in the second half and went back in front as Walters prodded home from Anel Ahmedhodzic's cross just after the hour mark and McDonagh added his second from the penalty spot five minutes later.

Colchester pulled one back through Eoin McKeown on 75 to make it 3-2 but the two-goal lead was restored moments later as Appiah capitalised on a goalkeeping error.

Kieran Hayes came off the bench to hit a fifth for Forest in injury time to add the gloss to a brilliant away win.

Forest: Evtimov, Ahmedhodzic, Preston, Crookes, Coveney, Edser, Walters, Otim (Hayes 63'), McDonagh, Smith (Taylor 80'), Gomis (Appiah 56')

Unused subs: Bossin, Charlesworth
