Under 23s looking for Premier League Cup progress

26 February 2018

Nottingham Forest Under 23s conclude their Premier League Cup group fixtures tonight when they take on Middlesbrough.

The winners of tonight's match at Bishop Auckland's Heritage Park (kick-off 7pm) will progress from the group, joining Derby County in the knockout rounds.

But a draw would see both Forest and Boro eliminated, with Birmingham City progressing in their place.

Under 23s: Middlesbrough 1-0 Forest

27 February 2018

Nottingham Forest Under 23s exited the Premier League Cup last night with a 1-0 defeat against Middlesbrough.

Knowing that a win for either side would take them through to the last 16 of the competition, it was Boro who progressed from the group stage alongside Derby County with a victory at Bishop Auckland’s Heritage Park.

Luke Armstrong’s goal proved to be the difference on the half-hour mark, with his header crashing down off the crossbar and the officials judging the ball to have crossed the line.

The game was marred by serious injuries to The Reds’ Yassine En-Neyah and Jordan Gabriel, with both players leaving the field on a stretcher, which led to 20 minutes of injury time at the end of the game.

But Forest couldn’t find a breakthrough as they went out of the cup at the group stage.

Forest: Erlandsson, Gabriel (Richardson 90’), Preston, Otim, Stewart, Ahmedhodzic, Appiah, Edser (c), Gomis, Smith, En-Neyah (Charlesworth 62’)

Unused subs: Bossin, Harbottle

Bookings: Ahmedhodzic 28’, Preston 90’
