Ladies: Forest 1-2 Huddersfield

12 November 2018

Nottingham Forest's promising start was in vain as two second-half goals condemned The Reds to a 2-1 defeat at home to Huddersfield Town.

The Reds grabbed the lead in the 8th minute as Ashleigh Edwards netted her first goal of the season with a superb long-range strike. The midfielder received the ball on the edge of the box and had enough time to arrange her feet before drilling her shot underneath Charlotte Oates in the Huddersfield goal.

Rebecca Thomas became a hero in between the sticks for Forest as she pulled off a terrific one-on-one save. Lucy Sowerby had turned freely inside the Forest area and drilled a shot towards goal but Thomas threw her whole body into the save and blocked the goal-bound shot with her right leg.

Forest were then awarded a free-kick when Katie Middleton was hacked down. Laura Cresswell came close to netting her first goal in her debut season for the club but her powerful set-piece was straight at Oates.

The Terriers thought they had levelled the scoring on the stroke of half-time but another great save from Thomas ensured The Reds went into the break ahead. Brittany Sanderson had rose highest to head a cross towards goal but Thomas pushed the shot onto the post with her fingertips and Lyndsey Harkin was on hand to clear the danger.

Huddersfield came out fighting in the second half as they searched to get something from the game and they drew level after only three minutes as the dangerous Sanderson tapped home a low cross from only 10 yards out.

The Terriers were awarded a penalty soon after as Georgia Hewitt mistimed her lunging tackle and brought down the Huddersfield player. Mallin stepped up for the visitors and made no mistake from the spot as she slotted her penalty beyond Thomas and into the left-hand corner of the net to give the visitors all three points.
