Former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Steve Sutton began coaching at the club in 2006, helping to develop the club's young goalkeepers at the Nigel Doughty Academy.

Sutton made more than 250 appearances for The Reds over a 13-year stay on Trentside, playing in the two League Cup final triumphs in 1989 and 1990. He left to join Derby County in 1992, and retired in 1998 after further spells with Birmingham City, Notts County and Grantham Town. 
He spent time as goalkeeping coach at a number of clubs, including Leeds United and Notts County, before returning to The City Ground.
