Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dorus de Vries has started the 2015-16 season in fine style with his assured performances earning him the accolade of The Bed Chambers Player of the Month for August.
The Dutchman made an outstanding save from Tomer Hemed in the opening-night game at Brighton before saving Gary Madine's penalty in the 2-2 draw at Bolton Wanderers.
His displays between the sticks in the opening weeks of the season have made him one of the most-popular members of the first-team squad as he achieved clean sheets against Charlton and Birmingham.
The performances of Karl Darlow restricted de Vries to just six appearances during the 2014-15 season but his character, experience and attitude to training drew praise from players and staff alike.
The shotstopper brought an array of experience to The City Ground in the summer of 2013 when he joined on a free transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
De Vries, who has also played in Scotland and his native Holland, secured an immediate return to the Championship after Wolves’ relegation, signing a two-year deal with The Reds.
Arguably his most impressive season to date came during his time at Swansea. In the 2009-10 campaign he kept 25 clean sheets, scooping the Golden Glove award in the process, as The Swans narrowly missed out on a Championship playoff berth.
While in Wales he forged a strong relationship with now-Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, whose appreciation for the Dutchman’s distribution led to an unsuccessful attempt to take him from Molineux to Anfield to work alongside Pepe Reina.
