Injury caused David Vaughan plenty of problems during the 2014-15 campaign and although the midfielder only made 15 appearances during the season, he showed plenty of potential for the years to come.
After arriving on loan from Sunderland in October 2013, Vaughan proved to be a calm head in the Forest engine room and he signed a permanent deal at The City Ground in the summer of 2014.
A product of the reputable Crewe Alexandra Academy, Vaughan spent eight years at Gresty Road after making his debut in a 0-0 draw against Blackburn Rovers back in 2000. The midfielder went on to make over 200 appearances for The Alex before being snapped up by Spanish side Real Sociedad in 2008.
Following a seven-month stay in Spain, Vaughan made the move back to England when he signed for Ian Holloway’s Blackpool. After helping The Seasiders reach the Premier League via the playoffs, Vaughan made an instant impact in the top flight by scooping the club’s 2010-11 Player of the Year award.
The Welshman made over 100 outings for The Tangerines but following their relegation made the switch to Sunderland. A much-admired figure on Wearside, he scored a memorable goal in The Black Cats’ 3-0 win at local rivals Newcastle last season.
Vaughan made his international debut for Wales in 2003 and his most recent appearance came in their 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw against Belgium in September.
