Former England midfielder Steve Hodge and Nottingham Forest Ladies and England U19 star Lyndsey Cunningham were at Morrisons Netherfield store today to sign up to the England 2018 FIFA World Cup™ bid, and to encourage the people of Nottingham to show their support for the bid by adding their signatures too.
Morrisons is this week launching a campaign to collect more than two million signatures in its stores across England, giving supporters the opportunity to back the bid. This will help demonstrate the strength of public enthusiasm for England to host the tournament, and to FIFA who will decide its destination in December 2010.
Anyone in Nottingham wishing to sign up to the bid can visit Morrisons stores in Netherfield, Bulwell, Clifton, Gamston and Eastwood to show their support, between now and September 2010.
Mark Gunter, Group Retail Director at Morrisons, said: "We're sure that our customers would be delighted if the World Cup came to England in 2018. With our sporting store colleagues in Nottingham we are determined to demonstrate popular support for England's bid by delivering more than two million signatures, showing FIFA the country's passion and enthusiasm for hosting the world's biggest football spectacle."
