Sadly Passed Away

This is a list of former Forest players who have more recently passed away.
Please note that it is not meant to be an extensive list of every Forest player who has died.

Billy Gray
William (Billy) Gray
An FA Cup winner with Forest in 1959 he had a successful career with a number of clubs, making 506 League appearances in all. He had a successful spell as manager of Millwall and later he managed Notts County. He became a groundsman at Forest in the 1970s.
For many years he had a shop in Wollaton and his name (in red !!) remained above the premises long after he had retired.
He sadly passed away on April 11th 2011, aged 83.
Eddie Baily Made 76 appearances for Forest after signing from Port Vale in 1956, scoring twice on his home debut. At Forest for two years where he helped win promotion to the First Division in 1957. He died on 13 October 2010 at Welwyn Garden City after a short illness.
Charlie 'Chic' Thomson Nottingham Forest's goalkeeper when they won the FA Cup in 1959, has died on January 6, 2009 age 78.
Chic made more than 120 appearances for the club between 1957 and '61 but his finest moment undoubtedly came under Wembley's twin towers as The Reds overcame Luton to land the cup for the second time in their history.
Born in Perth, Scotland on 2nd March 1930, Chic was the son of a professional goalkeeper and began his own professional career at Clyde. He was bought by Chelsea for £5,000 in October 1952 and helped them win their first league title in 1955.
He continued to live in Nottingham after his retirement from the game.
Robert A Brown 'Sailor' Brown made 50 appearances for Forest between 1946 and 47. He was a powerful goalscoring forward who did well for the large number of clubs he served. He retired from playing in 1954 after which he worked in a number of businesses. He died December 27th, 2008 age 93, suddenly but peacefully at the Meadowlark nursing home in Forres in Scotland where he had lived for the past 10years.
Alan Moore Made 104 appearances for Forest from 1952 to 1954. After retiring from football he was involved with the athletic program at Cambridge University and has coached at Cambridge United. He died on 7th April 2008 in Cambridge.
John(Bill) Brindley
John 'Bill' Brindley
Bill was 60 when he died in April 2007 after a long battle with illness. He will be best known for his playing days with our Nottingham neighbours Notts County, for whom he played 250 games between 1970 and 1976. He figured in their Fourth Division title winning side in 1971. A former England schoolboy and youth international, he had started his career at The City Ground as an apprentice but made only eight starting appearances and eight more as substitute before moving on to Meadow Lane.

Bob Raynor
Goalkeeper Bob Raynor, who was on Forest's books in the 1960s, passed away in March 2007, aged 67.
The father of Paul Raynor, who made four appearances for The Reds in '80s, he had two spells at The City Ground but failed to break into the first team.
John Anderson The son of a former Swinton Rugby League player, half-back John Anderson gained an FA Cup winners medal with Manchester United in 1948 before moving to Forest where he made 43 appearances. He helped The Reds win the Third Division South championship and later served with Peterborough in a variety of roles for almost a decade. He died in Manchester on 6 August 2006 (age 84).
Douglas Baird
Dougald Baird
The right-back made 37 appearances for Forest in the early 1960s before moving on to Plymouth Argyle. Moved back to Falkirk after retirement and died in December 2002.
Joe Baker
Joe Baker
Played 135 games for Forest from 1966-69 he signed from Arsenal for a a record fee of £65,000.
Affectionately known as 'The King' and also Zigger Zagger by his legion of Forest admirers he sadly died age 63 whilst playing at a charity golf day in Scotland on October 6, 2003.
Malcolm Cluroe
Malcolm Cluroe
An inside forward, he originally joined The Reds as an amateur and was a professional for the 1954-55 season. He made just one first team appearance - in a 5-1 home defeat by Luton Town in December '54. Passed away September 2006, aged 71.
Chris Crowe
Chris Crowe
Made 78 appearances from 1964-67. Came out of retirement to play for non-league Bath City in 1971. Lived in Bristol and worked as a taxi driver.

Sadly has since passed away.
Jack Hutchinson
Jack Hutchinson
Played 254 times for Forest between 1946 and 1959. Missed out on a place in the 1959 FA Cup final team and decided to retire. Went on to coach Ilkeston Town before leaving football altogether.

Died in November 2004 age 83.
Tom Johnston
Tom Johnston
Played for Hearts, Peterborough United, Northampton Town, Leicester City, Nottingham Forest, Notts County, youth coach at Birmingham City 56/57, manager of Heanor Town, manager of Rotherham United, manager of Grimsby Town, Huddersfield Town, York City, general manager of Huddersfield Town, returned to Stapleford.

Died December 1994 aged 76.
Bernard Kelly Signed by Billy Walker, from Leicester City in April 1959. He made just two League
appearances for Forest and played twice on an 'end of season' tour. Went to Aberdeen in July 1959.
He ran a solar heating business in Canada and moved to the USA where he died in Detroit in October 2004.
Jason Kaminsky
Jason Kaminsky
Made just one first team appearance for Forest after a spell as a trainee with the club.
Passed away September 28th 2005 age 31.
Ronald 'Tot' Leverton Helped Forest win the 3rd Division title in 1950-5. Made 105 appearances before moving to Meadow Lane in 1953.
Died August 19, 2003.
Dough Lishman
Doug Lishman
Played for Forest in 1956-57. Scored an important hat trick, against Sheffield United, in the match that clinched Forest's promotion to the then First Division. He retired in the summer of 1957, following our promotion, and went to work for his father-in-law's business furniture business in Stoke on Trent, and he lived there until his death in 1994.
Larry Platts
Larry Platts
He will be best remembered for the famous Forest victory over Manchester United in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup, 1947.
The game was referred to as Larry Platts' match in the Forest Centenary Book.
Larry passed away in The Cedars Residential & Nursing Home, Bourne, Lincs on 4 September 2006 age 84. He was a Forest man right up to the end.
John Quigley
John Quigley
A member of the 1959 FA Cup final winning team and scored 58 goals in 270 appearances for Forest. Played for Bristol City and Mansfield Town. Successful coaching spell in Middle East and coaching at Mansfield Town.

Sadly passed away December 1, 2004 age 69.

Played 431 games for Forest between 1946 and 1960, the 9th position in the clubs list of 'all-time appearance makers'.

Peter Small
Peter Small
Nicknamed the 'Horsham Flier' he played 94 games for Forest as a winger in the 50's, scoring 21 goals. He was a key member of Forest's Second Division promotion winning side of 1957. Sadly passed away November 3rd, 2006, aged 82
