Nottingham Forest 1 - 2 Shrewsbury Town

Forest's reserves lost their first league game of the season and missed the chance to close the gap between themselves and leaders Shrewsbury Town. The Reds went down 2-1 and find themselves 4 points off the pace, although still with three games in hand.

In a poor first half that saw both sides unable to retain meaningful possession, it was Shrewsbury that came closest to opening the scoring with a succession of chances in the space of a minute just after the quarter hour mark. Michael Symes and Marc Pugh squandered good chances before successive corners forced Karl Darlow to prevent Harry Hooman and David Hibbert.

The first goal went to the visitors 5 minutes into the second half. Tom Sharpe brought down Aaron Gibson just inside the box, and the impressive Symes smashed the resultant penalty past Darlow.

Richard Tait had a good chance for Forest to equalise but his header from sub Mickael Darnet's cross was well saved.

But Forest equalised in superb style in the 73rd minute. Ryan Whitehurst smashed a 25-yard freekick in to the top corner after Mark Byrne was fouled.

Adam Newbold came close to giving Forest the lead shortly after, cutting inside Danny Taylor, but keeper Glyn Garner reacted well to save with his legs.

But Shrewsbury had the final say to take all three points. Tony Diagne turned Pugh's cross into his own net under pressure from sub Andre Gray.
