It's taken me a little longer this week to do my weekly whinge and there are a few reasons for this. Firstly, I'm putting my house up for sale and any one who has been through this hell will know what I mean. The endless clearing up, keeping things straight, touching up here and there - It's starting to sound like a Manchester United Christmas party!

The other reason is that I spent Sunday commentating for the Visually Impaired at Wembley stadium. The event in question was the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. And what an excellent game it was.

The MK Dons prevailed over a gutsy Grimsby as the Mariners were given a lesson in League 2 football. Both sets of fans were to be admired also, strange that 56,000 spectators gathered inside the stadium and neither side can muster much around 10,000 for a league game! Yet more evidence of the fickle supporters association.

A Keith Andrews penalty and a header from Sean O'Hanlon were enough to see off Grimsby, who themselves missed from the penalty spot in the first period. Paul Ince wins his first Trophy as a manager whilst out foxing the experience of Alan Buckley. Tactically Ince was perfect on the day, choosing to play the quickest pair of wingers I've ever seen, against a back three.

Ince as a player wasn't short of medals and will hold this, a sometimes laughable Trophy, success up there with the bigger prizes. A first in what I'm sure will be a successful career. Automatic promotion for the Don's is a very real prospect and with a League win it would be an interesting second season for the man known as the Guvnor'.

I mentioned tactics a little back and that brings me neatly to my comments on Forest this week. I, like so many, listened to our visit to the Keepmoat Stadium (Doncaster) on Friday night and like the rest of the avid listeners was greatly disappointed by the outcome. Now people tell me that they think CC is tactically naïve, but I'll argue against.

For my money Friday was player error, in the sense that they were asked to defend well, as 20 clean sheets suggests we can, and hit Donny on the break. If, however, the players are inept on the night and unable to string little more than a sentence let alone three passes together, then for me that's not tactics.

That's all about attitude and application. I ask the next person who shouts, no doubt very loudly if we lose again against Carlisle, for CC's head if they would do so for our arrogant, lazy, want away striker, Junior Agogo? How about, maybe, encouraging young Matt Thornhill instead of berating his stray pass then calling for a replacement, remember this is a youngster trying to make a foothold in an already underachieving team?

I'm not saying that CC is correct every week and I doubt many fans think their manager is perfect anywhere in the country, I know plenty of plastic Man Utd fans that think Sir Chewing Gum gets it wrong most weeks.

Also, I know that it is the Gaffer's job to get players heads right and to motivate those players not making the first 11 but when complete contempt and apathy take over from effort and determination then who could manage that? And before you say "Cloughie would have sorted 'em out" don't. Those days are gone. Player power is more and more evident now, so to is the greed and chase of superstardom.

Young players don't want to show their boss 111% any more they won't to show their mates the new Bentley they picked up. Modern day players, as we now see and despise, were only just coming to the fore as Sir Brian 'God of all things football' Clough was leaving the circus. Even now the Messiah will be looking down and seeing some of the antics that, your now England Captain has got up to in the past and be wondering where it has all gone so tragically wrong.

I spoke to a close friend of mine not so long ago about the situation at Forest and he revealed the only reason he was still a season ticket holder was because the 'misses' thought it would be good for him to get out the house. Although I suspect a new shade of plum is immanent in the bedroom!

Totally disillusioned with the modern game, here is a man that was brought up on the glory days of 2 European Cups but still has the thought process to be able to distance those successes from the modern day plight. The reason he didn't want this years season ticket, the fans around him. Constant moaning from people less qualified to do a football managers job than a half eaten mars bar. Or idiots as he calls them.

I will however admit to defeat in as much as realising if we are indeed beaten by Carlisle, combined with results elsewhere, we end up outside the play-off places then something will have to be done. I'm not qualified, like the mars bar, to tell you what indeed must happen but the nature of the beast is that CC will be down the Job Centre earlier than the summer months.

Much like, with the Ginger one before CC's reign player power rears its ugly head at our club and the manager gets the boot, maybe. I would like to see another clear out at the end of this campaign, regardless of the outcome, as a lot of players have shown a real lack of respect for the sacred Tree that embellishes the shirt.

Watch this space for more traumatic and turbulent goings on at the City Ground, but like the song states "there may be trouble ahead".
For whom, it remains to be seen
