The left back, who is one of Forest's most highly rated young players, continued to make excellent progress last season.
He made his senior debut for The Reds and in his 12 appearances - including 10 starts - quickly adapted to life on the first team stage.
The Liverpudlian was on Manchester United's books as a schoolboy but was not offered a scholarship at Old Trafford.
He was picked up by the Forest Academy and has hardly looked back since.
Forest debut: August 13th, 2008 v Morecambe (H) Carling Cup
My First........
My first team was Shaftesbury Boys Under 8s in Birkenhead. We were rubbish - we lost every week!
My first autograph was Robbie Fowler. I'm a big Liverpool fan and went on a tour of Anfield and just happened to meet him along the way.
My first influence was my dad Gary. He didn't play football himself but always encouraged me when I was a kid and spent so much time ferrying me to and from games and training sessions.
My first album was by The Wenger Boys. How embarrassing is that? Needless to say I haven't still got it ... and even if I did, I wouldn't own up to it. Admitting I bought it in the first place is bad enough.
My first roommate was Corrie Treacy. We were in the Academy together and roomed in the club's hostel. He was completely mad and the untidiest bloke I've ever met, leaving clothes strewn all over the room. On away trips with the first team I've been sharing just lately with James Reid.
My first league appearance was against Burnley at The City Ground earlier this season. It wasn't really something I expected because I hadn't been anywhere near the first team before then but it was a fantastic experience, something I'm not likely to forget in a hurry.
My first position was as a central midfielder. I played there for Manchester United for a year then got moved to the centre of defence and eventually ended up at left back.
My first goal I'm still waiting to score for the first team but I got my first at reserve level last season against Wolves. Garath McCleary sent over a cross from the right and I managed to get my head onto it at the back post.
My first disappointment was being released by Manchester United as a 16 year old. I had been there for four years as a schoolboy but they decided not to offer me an Academy contract, which is not what you want to hear when you've set your heart on playing for them. The fact that several clubs, including Forest, contacted me straight away to offer me trials helped me get over it pretty quickly.
My first holiday abroad was to Gran Canaria. I was 12 and the whole family went.
My first game I went to would have been a Liverpool game at Anfield but I can't remember who they were playing. I used to go to Anfield once a month and would sit on The Kop.
My first pay packet was £15 a week for delivering papers around where I lived. I delivered the 'Wirral Globe', a weekly paper, and my round covered about 300 houses.
My first car.. I'm hoping it's a case of third time lucky because I've failed my driving test twice already, although I haven't put in for another test date just yet.
My first league ground played on was Tranmere's Prenton Park with my school, Rock Ferry High, in the final of the local schools competition. We made it to the final most years and won it twice during my time there.
