The young Irishman made such an impact in his early first team days at The City Ground that he was quickly tipped to have a big future in the game.
He deservedly carried off the Young Player of the Year award and his ability to play in several positions in the back four and midfield enhanced his reputation.
But although his career was given a kick-start last season during an impressive loan spell with Notts County he suffered a serious knee injury that curtailed his hopes of making further headway.
He suffered the injury in a loan spell with Championship rivals Scunthorpe in what was only his third appearance for them in the second half of the season.
Moloney was a product of youth football in County Kerry but made rapid progress once he joined Forest's Academy and went on to captain the Forest reserve side in 2006-07.
The following season he made his debut for Forest and loan spells with Chesterfield and Rushden and Diamonds followed as he gathered valuable experience.
Forest debut: August 11th, 2007 v Bournemouth (H) League One
