The striker joined Forest in July 2008 from Carlisle in a deal worth £1.14million but will have to wait to make his debut.

Colin Calderwood believes he has such great potential that he pressed ahead with the deal, even though the player is recovering from a knee ligament operation and is unlikely to be fit until October.

Before he was injured last season Garner scored 14 goals in 30 league appearances in Carlisle's promotion push and the season before grabbed five goals from 17 starts.

He began his career with Blackburn's highly-respected Academy and represented England at schoolboy and Under 19 level.

Initially he moved to Carlisle on loan to gain regular first team experience but so well did he do at Brunton Park that the Cumbrians were delighted to make the deal permanent in what was a club record £140,000 transfer at the beginning of last season.

Forest debut:  October 25th, 2008 v Cardiff City (H) Championship

Question Time

SHIRT NUMBER
No reason at all. I'm not really fussed about the number - playing is what I want to do.

ROOMMATE
I suppose when we both get around to it I'll probably room with Paul Anderson but I can't tell you yet about what bad habits he has.

ON THE COACH
Believe me, I just want to get on the coach after being out for so long. I'll almost put up with anything just to get a game.

OTHER SPORTS
I'm not the worst golfer - I can play to a handicap of around 12. And I'm probably the best table-tennis player in the club but all the lads think that.

DOWNLOADS
I'm just not into podcasts, lap-tops and things like that.

LISTEN ON RADIO
I'm a Radio One fan but I can't say that I'm into any particular artist.

PRACTICAL JOKES
It used to be crazy at Carlisle. People like Jeff Smith and Danny Graham were always getting up to things like putting Vaseline on windscreens - it's a nightmare to get off. They've also left cars on main roads and training grounds. It's quite civilised at Forest - so far.

NICKNAME
Nothing original - I've always been called 'Garns'

DAYS OFF
I like spending time off with my two children - when I get away from the treatment room!

WHAT WOULD I BE
Something in sport - probably a PE teacher or something similar.

COOK OR CLEAN
I'd much rather cook. My chicken curry is not bad - if I say so myself. Well, I like it anyway.

FOUR PEOPLE TO DINNER
Alan Shearer, Tiger Woods and Roger Federer because I admire them so much as sportsmen in their own field. I'd also invite the Queen just to see what she had to say.

TOUGHEST OPPONENT
It was probably Sean Gregan. He kicked me for 90 minutes when I played for Carlisle against Oldham last season.

TV PROGRAMME
Deal or No Deal

DREAM DAY
I'm buying into the fact that scoring the winner against Derby could be quite a good thing.

WORST HAIRCUT
Lee Martin's haircut is clearly the worst but I've got to say that Lewis McGugan has the biggest head.
