The impact McGugan made on the first team scene at The City Ground hardly took those 'in the know' at the Club by surprise.
The teenage midfielder has long been regarded as one of Forest's brightest prospects at Academy level and he lived up to that billing once Colin Calderwood had offered him the chance to step up to senior level.
McGugan made 18 first team appearances, including 13 starts, and scored two spectacular goals.
His cultured midfield displays belied his age and inexperience and he also showed nerves of steel by coming up with a match winning free-kick in the dying minutes against Gillingham in March '07.
That stunning effort earned the Nottingham-born player the Club's 'Goal of the Season' award after he topped a supporters' poll.
