He topped Forest's scoring charts last season 13 goals and in the process underlined his vast potential.
Widely regarded as one of the brightest midfield talents outside the Premier League, he continues to develop and has added a degree of consistency to his performances.
His goal return - his best ever for a single season - was an added bonus and he popped up with a string of match-winners, including a brace at Preston which earned Forest their first victory of the campaign.
His most memorable goal, however, was a thunderously struck free-kick from 35 yards against Ipswich which earned him the club's Goal of the Year award.
Born and raised locally, he is a product of the Forest Academy and has represented England at various youth levels.
Difficult to shrug off the ball, he has the ability to unlock the meanest of defences with a telling pass and is hoping to be a key figure under the management of Steve McClaren.
