The young Welsh international full back has proved to be an outstanding acquisition since joining the club initially on loan from Tottenham for the final six weeks of the 2008-09 campaign.
His form helped Forest secure their place in the Championship and during the course of the close season it was no surprise that his transfer was secured following a £1.75m deal.
Last season his form went from strength to strength and he was one of the key figures in Billy Davies' side that went so close to securing a place in the Premier League.
His attacking play was a prominent feature of Forest's play and he scored his first senior goal for the club to give them victory over Plymouth.
Gunter began his career with Cardiff but it was not long before Premier League scouts were taking a keen interest in him with Everton and Tottenham leading the way.
But Spurs won the race for him in January 2008 and as he battled for a first team spot at White Hart Lane he began to establish himself in the Welsh international side.
The move to Forest gave him the first team football that he yearned and he made no secret of his delight when the transfer to The City Ground was made permanent.
