The Welsh international got his wish in July 2009 when Forest secured a deal to sign him from Tottenham.

Gunter spent the final six weeks of last season on loan at The City Ground and was a key figure as The Reds climbed clear of relegation.

He made no secret of his desire to return to Nottingham - either in a loan deal or a permanent switch - and was delighted when Forest struck a £1.75million deal with Spurs.

A host of Championship clubs - including Newcastle and Ipswich - were reported to be on Gunter's trail but he only had eyes for a Forest return.

Gunter launched his career with Cardiff and quickly attracted attention from Premier League outfits.

Everton were reported to have had two bids rejected for him before he joined Spurs in January '08.

He struggled to make an impact on the first team scene at White Hart Lane but managed to establish himself as a key figure at international level for Wales.

Gunter signed a four-year Forest contract.
