The former Brighton defender suffered an injury-hit season in 2009-10 - his outings were restricted to just 12 - but will be out to prove his first team value.
He has the benefit of being able to play at the heart of the back four or at left back, where he has played most of his games for Forest to date.
Lynch is another player who arrived at The City Ground following a successful loan - he made 24 appearances for the club after joining them from Brighton midway through the 2008-09 campaign.
He is a product of Brighton's youth scheme and was still regarded as a youth team player when he made his debut for them against Southampton in the Championship in January 2006.
He went on to make 88 appearances for The Seagulls before moving to Nottingham when he found himself out of favour on the south coast.
Forest debut: September 30, 2008 v Sheffield Wednesday (A) Championship
