He was once again one of the mainstays at the heart of the Forest defence last season.

He made 39 first team appearances, although his campaign came to an abrupt end following a red card against Sheffield United in April that resulted in a three-match ban.

Wilson joined Forest from Preston in the summer of 2007 in a £300,000 switch and made a significant contribution as The Reds secured promotion in his first season on Trentside.

He has impressed many observers at The City Ground with the calm and composed nature of his displays since joining the club and has also shown his leadership qualities by captaining the side on a number of occasions.

Born and raised in the Strelley area of Nottingham, he launched his career as a trainee with Notts County and went on to make more than 80 appearances for The Magpies before attracting the attention of then Preston boss Billy Davies.

He moved to Deepdale in March 2006 but was limited to just 30 appearances at senior level.

Leeds and Doncaster rivalled Forest for his signature - he agreed personal terms with Leeds and even underwent a medical before pulling out of the move - but the prospect of joining the club he supports proved too strong a lure.

Although capable of playing in either full back position, he regards himself first and foremost as a central defender.
