He wasn't helped by the fact that he missed the start of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery.
But he still contributed six goals, including both in a 2-0 home win over Burnley in the final weeks of the season when Forest were looking to reignite their play-off push.
A Nottingham lad, he started his career with Notts County and was still at school when he made his debut for the Magpies.
McGoldrick had only made 10 appearances for Forest's near neighbours before attracting interest from Southampton.
He had spells on loan with Bournemouth and Port Vale but in 2008-09 figured in all of Southampton's league games and scored 14 league and cup goals.
