Forest facing D-day in efforts to land Cardiff winger Peter Whittingham

TODAY could be D-day in Nottingham Forest's efforts to land Cardiff City winger Peter Whittingham.
Sources close to the player in Wales suggest that Whittingham will decide on his future within the next 24 hours.
But it is believed Whittingham, who scored 25 goals last season, is now considering whether to remain with Cardiff for now, despite the interest from Forest and several other Championship sides.

Nottingham Forest demand £2m for Celtic target
Kelvin Wilson.

Celtic will have to cough up £2million to sign Nottingham Forest's Kelvin Wilson - despite the defender having turned down a new contract at the City Ground.
The 24-year-old Englishman has been one of Neil Lennon's top targets for weeks, with the Parkhead club believed to have enquired about a £1m deal for the rising star.
But, with just a week left of the transfer window, Forest are adamant they won't sell their prize asset on the cheap, even though his current deal has only 10 months to run.

Rovers want £1m for forgotten striker

Blackburn want a stunning £1million for Jason Roberts - the striker without a squad number.
Roberts has been told he can go after a row with boss Sam Allardyce on a pre-season tour to Australia, but the fee is sky high.
The experienced forward is on close to £35,000-a-week at Rovers and that makes the deal hard for anyone to make with the price on top.
Nottingham Forest and Leeds are interested but may wait until the ¬Football League loan window opens next month.

Bellamy's Cardiff may open door for Forest to sign Whittingham

THE shock capture of Craig Bellamy by Cardiff City could open the door for Nottingham Forest to finally land winger Peter Whittingham.

Forest also remain hopeful of signing Swansea midfielder Darren Pratley.
Swans' boss Brendan Rodgers remains steadfast that the midfielder will only be sold to a top-flight club.
But he admits they are struggling to persuade Pratley to sign a new contract.
"If Darren is going to leave, it has to be for a Premier League club," said Rodgers. "I have pushed really hard for him to sign a new deal.

Swansea City official website, August 12th
Swans chairman on Pratley situation

Following the constant speculation regarding the future of midfielder Darren Pratley, Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins gives supporters an update on the current situation.
I can confirm that we recently received a written offer from Nottingham Forest for Darren Pratley.
However, the offer is nowhere near the £1.5m being reported and is not an up-front fee.
The offer is also nowhere near the level we feel is right for a player of Darren's ability at this point.

South Wales Evening Post, August 12th

NOTTINGHAM Forest have left a bid on the table for Darren Pratley in case Swansea City decide to sell during the transfer window, the Evening Post understands. Swansea remain hopeful that they will convince the midfielder (above) to sign a new deal. But if Pratley cannot agree terms on an extension, Swansea may opt to cash in now rather than lose the 25-year-old for nothing when his current contract expires at the end of the season.

Swansea Evening Post, August 10th
Jenkins hopeful Pratley will sort out Swans future

SWANSEA City are keeping fingers crossed that Darren Pratley will sign a new deal at the Liberty in the wake of claims that Nottingham Forest have tapped up the midfielder.
Huw Jenkins has hit out at Forest chief executive Mark Arthur after he suggested Pratley wants to leave Wales for the City Ground.
Given that Swansea have snubbed Forest's advances, the Midlands club should not have had any contact with the player.
Jenkins says Swansea are yet to decide whether to make any formal complaint about Forest's tactics. And the Swansea chairman is more concerned about trying to persuade Pratley to extend his contract.
"We are always hopeful that we can do something but, as with any negotiations, both parties have got to be thinking along the same lines in order to do a deal," he said.

Daily Mirror, Aug 5th
Nottingham Forest hope to complete the signing of Swansea midfielder Darren Pratley and Cardiff's Peter Whittingham today.
They will each cost around £2million.

"We are continuing negotiations with Peter over a new contract here at Cardiff City."

Blackpool running short of options as low bid for
Nathan Tyson fails

Blackpool's problematic build-up to their first season in the Premier League continued today with a failed cut-price bid for the Nottingham Forest striker Nathan Tyson.
The Tangerines were hoping to take advantage of the fact Tyson is out of contract next summer, but their undisclosed offer was rejected out of hand. Forest want around £1m, even though Tyson can leave on a free transfer in a year and had a poor season in the Championship last season, scoring only two goals.

Daily Mail, August 2nd
Blackpool have had a £1million bid for the Leicester City striker DJ Campbell rejected and are now on the trail of the £1m rated Nottingham Forest striker Nathan Tyson.

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Smith is placed on the transfer list by Davies

GOALKEEPER Paul Smith has been told he has no future at Nottingham Forest.
Manager Billy Davies has placed the Reds stopper on the transfer list, having informed him that he is free to seek first team football elsewhere.
"I have told Paul that his future lies away from Nottingham Forest," said Davies.
"It is in his best interests and in the best interests of the club if he moves on to pastures new.
"He needs somewhere where he can get regular first team football, which we can't offer him here.
"He has been placed on the transfer list and is available for sale."

Premiership Blackpool are believed to have joined the race to sign Forest striker Nathan Tyson.
The Reds are thought to be willing to listen to offers for the player, who craves the chance to play in his preferred role up front.
Forest have already begun work to sign a replacement, having bid £300,000 for Sheffield Wednesday winger Jermaine Johnson.

Villa defender Shorey still a target insists Forest boss Davies

NOTTINGHAM Forest have not given up hope over signing Nicky Shorey, Billy Davies insisted today.
"If Nicky Shorey does not get a Premier Division club and there is a possibility that we can do something; if there is a possibility that he could still become available, either on loan or permanently - then until that door closes on us, he remains an option.
"He is one of several players that I have recommended for that position."

Forest rule out Simpson raid
Davies keen for club to hang on to key players

Billy Davies has ruled out a move for Jay Simpson as he looks to keep his key players at Nottingham Forest this season.
"I have recommended that we bring in strikers, yes. But he is not among them," Davies told the Nottingham Evening Post.
"As things stand, I have given a list of potential signings to the acquisitions committee and like anyone else, I am obviously very concerned.
"But I have said before that it is just my job to put the names forward and then wait, like everyone else, to see what can be done."
Davies is also calling on the Championship club to resist any approaches for Kelvin Wilson, Chris Cohen and Nathan Tyson before the transfer window closes.
He added: "There is a lot of speculation with regard to Kelvin Wilson. We will have to see what happens there and it is the same with Chris Cohen and Nathan Tyson. It can be disruptive when that happens.
"My recommendation with all three players is that they should be part of our progression.
"I have not spoken to the players, but they know my feelings about them. They know that I like them and like them very much."

The Guardian, July 28th
Nottingham Forest deny
Kelvin Wilson strike action claims

Nottingham Forest have denied reports that the defender Kelvin Wilson has gone on strike over a possible move to Celtic.
"We can confirm that Kelvin has an injury," said the spokesperson. "He took part during the pre-season trip to Portugal but since he returned he has picked up a shin injury and that is the reason he has not played."
The spokesperson refused to comment on whether Celtic had made a formal offer for Wilson, but added: "We have no idea where these stories about going on strike have come from."

Daily Express, July 27th
Celtic target Kelvin Davis has gone on strike at Nottingham Forest

FURIOUS Kelvin Davis (I think perhaps they mean Kelvin Wilson!) has gone on strike and demanded that Nottingham Forest sell him to Celtic.
Hoops boss Neil Lennon had a £1million offer for the defender turned down earlier this week, and that has prompted him to tell the Forest hierarchy that he wants out and has made himself unavailable for any of their pre-season games.
And it it looks as though Celtic they will get their man by going in with an increased offer of around £1.5m.

Nottingham Evening Post, July 27th
Forest boss Davies: We want to bring players in, not sell them

BILLY Davies today urged Nottingham Forest not to allow any more players to leave the City Ground - and admitted speculation about the future of Kelvin Wilson, Nathan Tyson and Chris Cohen is having a destabilising affect on his squad.
"There is a lot of speculation with regard to Kelvin Wilson. We will have to see what happens there and it is the same with Chris Cohen and Nathan Tyson. It can be disruptive when that happens," he said.
"My recommendation with all three players is that they should be part of our progression.
"I have not spoken to the players but they know my feelings about them. They know that I like them and like them very much.
"They know they are very much part of our plans.
"Money talks in football however, we all know that. As a manager, you know that what you are dealing with now might not be what you are dealing with in two weeks."
Davies refuted speculation that Arsenal striker Jay Simpson is among the list of targets he has given to the acquisitions committee.
He said: "I have recommended that we bring in strikers, yes. But he is not among them.
"As things stand, I have given a list of potential signings to the acquisitions committee and like anyone else, I am obviously very concerned.
"But I have said before that it is just my job to put the names forward and then wait, like everyone else, to see what can be done."

CELTIC'S £1M BID FOR KELVIN WILSON TURNED DOWN

CELTIC boss Neil Lennon has failed with an initial £1million offer for Nottingham Forest defender Kelvin Wilson.
Lennon is keen to give Wilson, 24, the opportunity to play in the Champions League this season and made his move last week.
But Forest have told the Glasgow giants to cough up £2m for the highly rated centre-half who has rejected a new contract at the City Ground.

Forest boss Billy Davies, meanwhile, has seen a £350,000 offer for Sheffield Wednesday winger Jermaine Johnson snubbed.
Davies wants Jamaican international Johnson, 30, to join his promotion charge but cash-strapped Wednesday want more money.

Forest players Wilson and Tyson are transfer targets for rivals

NOTTINGHAM Forest will have to fight off interest in both Nathan Tyson and Kelvin Wilson, as they look to retain their squad for another Championship promotion push.
Southampton may up their initial £400k offer for striker Tyson, which was rejected.
And Celtic have also renewed their pursuit of defender Wilson, who Hoops boss Neil Lennon played with at the City Ground.
The Reds have tabled a £1.5m bid for Cardiff's Peter Whittingham and are also hot on the trail of Swansea's Darren Pratley and striker Jay Simpson, who is expected to be released by Arsenal.
They are also planning a loan move for Chelsea full-back Patrick van Aanholt, with Nicky Shorey unwilling to return to Forest.

Alan Pardew interested in Nottingham Forest's
Nathan Tyson
SAINTS boss Alan Pardew has failed with a £400,000 bid for his former Reading striker Nathan Tyson, it has been reported today.

The Sun, July 22nd
Forest are preparing to make Chelsea an offer for Dutch defender Patrick van Aanholt.
The acquisition panel are apparently keen to bring him to the City Ground on a loan deal.
The player is currently behind Ashley Cole, Yury Zhirkov and Paulo Ferreira in the Stamford Bridge pecking order and would benefit from the first team experience a spell with a Championship club would provide.
Whispers of Forest's interest in the youngster have been persistent over the summer and have as of yet come to nothing.
The player has previously spent time with Championship outfit Coventry City as well as newly promoted Newcastle United.

Swansea issue Pratley warning and refute talk of fresh Forest bid

SWANSEA chairman Huw Jenkins today warned they would not be bullied into selling Darren Pratley.
The Welsh club this morning denied rumours of a fresh bid from Nottingham Forest for the highly rated midfielder.
Jenkins said: "I can assure supporters that nobody will leave this club unless the deal is right for us and every other option has been exhausted.
"We will deal with things the right way for our football club.
"I had a private conversation with Nottingham Forest a few weeks ago which, as we agreed, will stay private.
"Now that our new manager (Brendan Rodgers) is in place, we will be looking to start discussions with Darren Pratley over a new contract."
"I assume it is an attempt by agents to put pressure on us. It's certainly not a new story, so I'm very disappointed," he said.
"But I can state quite categorically that we will not be pressurised or bullied by anyone."

Whittingham biding his time

Peter Whittingham is in no rush to resolve any issues regarding his future, claim his representatives.
The Cardiff City midfielder has just one year left to run on his current contract with the Bluebirds and is yet to commit to fresh terms.
A new deal has been put to the free-scoring Whittingham, but he continues to weigh up his options before taking any definitive decision.
Nottingham Forest and Burnley are known to have expressed an interest in his services and, with Cardiff currently working under a transfer embargo, his head has been turned.
A representative of the player's agents told the South Wales Echo: "There is an offer on the table from Cardiff City and it is being looked at. The financial situation Cardiff find themselves in is a concern, naturally.
"Like any player, Peter is very ambitious. With Cardiff unable to bring any new players in because of the embargo, you do start to question things. We also know that being unable to bring in new players, Cardiff are not keen on selling any of the players they currently have.
"Peter enjoyed his best season last year with Cardiff and he has options. We do not feel there is any need to rush things.
"Of course, in January he would be free to talk to other clubs, but that is not to say he won't be committing himself to Cardiff. Peter is happy at Cardiff. He is focused on the start of the new season."

skysports, July 16th
Billy Davies has no plans to part with any more members of his Nottingham Forest playing staff.

The Reds boss is determined to keep his senior squad in one piece, with the club looking to build on a productive 2009/10 campaign which saw them secure a play-off spot in the Championship.
Bolton and Blackpool are believed to be monitoring highly-rated winger Chris Cohen, and Celtic continue to be linked with commanding centre-half Kelvin Wilson, but Davies claims none of his players are for sale.
"I made it clear last season that, with the age of this squad and the quality of it, it only needed to be topped up," he said in the Nottingham Evening Post.
"The longer it was together as a group, we knew the more success it would get.
"What we didn't want to do was to be chopping and changing our better players because that disrupts the long-term planning.
"I would not be encouraging or looking for any more players to leave the club. I would be looking to continue the development of this team for as long as I can."

Mirror Football, July 15th

Nicky Shorey has told Championship Nottingham Forest he is holding out for a move to the Premier League.
Left-back Shorey, 29, capped twice by England, is set to leave Aston Villa this summer.
He is wanted by Forest after a successful spell on loan from last November to January.
But Shorey would prefer a switch to Fulham in the top-flight after a loan spell there.
Fulham will move for Shorey if left-back Paul Konchesky, 29, who has 12 months left on his contract, quits.
Shorey has other Premier League suitors as well and is prepared to wait until late August to get a move to a top-flight club ahead of Forest.

NOTTINGHAM Forest will allow talismanic defender Julian Bennett to go on long-term loan this season to regain his match fitness.

"He should be fully fit again by the time the new season starts.
"He will have had a pre-season under his belt and he should be ready.
"But the best thing for him will be to go out on loan, probably until January at least, to get himself back to the right level.

NOTTINGHAM Forest would be mad not to try to sign Nicky Shorey if he is available this summer, Billy Davies said today.
The Reds boss confirmed that the club would be stepping up their interest in the 29-year-old former England international.
"It would be a no brainer for us to look at Nicky if he was available," said Davies.
"If he is somebody we could possibly sign, then we have to look at it.
"He impressed everyone during his loan spell at the club. He fitted in with the players and slotted into the squad perfectly.
"If something can be done, if we can bring him to the club again, then we have to look at it.
"He is a player with obvious quality and there is no question he did a good job for us while he was here.
"He would be a good addition if it could be done."

Davies also confirmed that Forest do not have any interest in Motherwell defender Mark Reynolds, despite Fir Park boss Craig Brown linking the Reds with a move for him.
"I have spoken to Craig to clarify that he is not somebody we are interested in," said Davies.
"He may be a decent player, but he is not on our list of targets.
"I think Craig was asking the question over whether we would be interested and 'no' is the answer."

NOTTINGHAM Forest could be ready to join the race to sign Hull City's Dean Marney.
The energetic midfielder has already been revealed as a target for Burnley, with Brian Laws reportedly preparing a £1m bid.
But, with Burnley seemingly holding fire on their interest, Forest could be poised to pounce themselves.
The Reds primary midfield target remains Swansea's box-to-box driving force Darren Pratley.
But if a deal cannot be agreed for the London-born player - who could cost in the region of £2.5m - Marney could prove to be a viable alternative.
Chelsea's young full-back Patrick Van Aanholt is also believed to be on Forest's wanted list, with the Dutchman potentially available on a season-long loan deal.

A quote by Billy Davies from a long article in the above newspaper
"I had a very purposeful meeting with the chairman," he says. "Time will tell. We all know what we have to do for next season. I've got no other intention but to get my head down and get this job done over the next two years. Anybody watching our team would have seen what we were before January and what we were after January. Everybody with half a brain would understand. This is the chairman's club, it's Nigel Doughty's money. He and the acquisitions committee will decide what's right."

Swans fighting to keep Pratley

SWANSEA CITY'S battle to hold on to Darren Pratley has begun as Nottingham Forest prepare to launch a renewed bid for the Liberty star.
But chairman Huw Jenkins has issued a hands-off warning after speculation also linked Roberto Martinez's Wigan Athletic with a move for the 25-year-old Londoner.
Beaten play-off semi-finalists Forest had a £1.5m bid for Pratley turned down in January but boss Billy Davies is eager to up the offer. But he was denied doing so by the City Ground outfit's unusual transfer acquisition committee, headed by former Spurs boss David Pleat.

Billy Davies to remain at Nottingham Forest after Nigel Doughty talks

Billy Davies will remain as manager of Nottingham Forest following clear-the-air talks with the club's owner, Nigel Doughty, this afternoon to resolve their differences after several months in which their relationship has been stretched close to breaking point.
However, the talks with Doughty - originally scheduled for Friday - have been described as constructive and the club will renew their interest in Swansea City's captain, Darren Pratley, as well as a possible season-long loan for the Chelsea reserve left-back Patrick van Aanholt.

Billy Davies set for crunch talks to decide Nottingham Forest future

• Owner Nigel Doughty to demand show of loyalty from manager
• Billy Davies ready to quit City Ground over club's transfer policy

Billy Davies will hold talks with Nottingham Forest's owner, Nigel Doughty, on Friday to determine whether he continues as manager of the club after a potentially irreparable split at boardroom level.
Davies' relationship with Doughty and the chief executive, Mark Arthur, has deteriorated to the point that he has been openly advertising his potential availability during a series of interviews that have been described as "brazen beyond belief" behind the scenes at the City Ground.
"There is not a job that I would not consider," Davies said in one interview on STV when asked about the vacancy at Celtic and whether it was true that he, as a Rangers man, was genuinely interested. "From my point of view I certainly would not turn my back on any potential interested party if they make it official to Forest, if they agree compensation, and they do what is necessary."

Forest boss Billy Davies set to hold crunch talks with club on Friday

BILLY Davies and Nottingham Forest will hold showdown talks on Friday.
The Reds boss wants to seek assurances that he will have greater control of transfers next season, after being upset at the lack of activity in January - which he believes cost the club promotion to the Premiership.
But the Scot himself will have some questions to answer from the club hierarchy who are becoming increasingly frustrated at seeing him linked with jobs at other clubs, most notably Celtic.

Nottingham Forest have no immediate plans to sign winger George Boyd

The winger spent the final two months of the season at the City Ground on loan from Peterborough.
Forest paid a loan fee of about £400,000 for the opportunity - but the Post understands that money was never tied into any agreement over a potential future fee to make the move permanent.
Having made only five starts and one substitute appearance for Forest - scoring a single goal on the final day of the normal season as a weakened Reds side drew 2-2 at Scunthorpe - it seems unlikely that Forest will bid.

Scottish giants Celtic target Forest defender Wilson

SCOTTISH giants Celtic have put Nottingham Forest's Kelvin Wilson at the top of their summer shopping list.
Former Reds midfielder Neil Lennon, who is expected to be placed in permanent charge at Celtic Park after being caretaker boss since March, was at the City Ground on Tuesday night to run the rule over the defender.
He is understood to be keen to sign the central defender, who he played alongside in League One in 2007/08.
And, as they seek to wrestle the Scottish title back from Glasgow Rangers, Lennon has identified Wilson as the man to shore up their defence and is considering a £2.5m bid.
But he is likely to face a fruitless fight, as the Post understands that Forest are not willing to contemplate any bids for the Nottingham-born player, who they regard as being integral in their future hopes.
