Davies wants to be reunited with Derby keeper Bywater at Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies wants to sign goalkeeper Stephen Bywater
from former club Derby County for around £250,000 and has a good chance as he is out of contract at the end of the season.
The new Forest boss took Bywater to Derby from West Ham.
Davies is also lining up out-of-favour Preston winger Simon Whaley.

Breckin eyes Forest stay

NOTTINGHAM FOREST veteran Ian Breckin hopes to secure his future at the club — after shutting out Manchester City's millionaires.
He told SunSport: "The new manager came into the dressing room before the Man City game and wished us the best.
"I told the lads they had a great chance to impress him — and they certainly did that.
"As it stands, my situation hasn't changed, although I hope to speak to the new boss in the week.
"I have never wanted to leave. I just wanted first team football.
"It's not good when a manager loses his job and the players have to take some responsibility for that.
"But I've started the last two games since Colin left the club and if that remains the same under the new boss, then I'm more than keen to stay."

I'll fight Forest fire if fans let me!

NEW boss Billy Davies insists he has never been more fired up — as he bids to win over the doubters at Nottingham Forest.
The appointment of ex-Derby manager Davies has generated anger among Forest fans.
But Davies is ready to silence the sceptics by pulling out all the stops to save Forest's Championship skins.
He said: "Life goes on and if it was good enough for Brian Clough it's good enough for Billy Davies.
"I would hope my record in the past speaks for itself. I've never been so fired up to succeed at any time in my managerial career.
"There is massive potential at Forest and nothing would give me greater pleasure than eventually leaving the club in a better condition than I found it.
"I am very proud of the condition I left my former clubs Preston and Derby in — they were in a much better state than when I came in. I want to do the same here.
"The long-term aim is to reach the Premier League but obviously in the short term it is to keep Forest in the division. It's not cut and dried and it's going to take a massive effort to stay up. I've enjoyed my time out of the game and spent time with my family.
"But I can't tell you how much I am raring to go."

Forest legend Kenny Burns believes Davies is the ideal man to revive the club's fortunes, claiming the players had too easy a life under Calderwood.
The European Cup winner said: "Billy did a superb job taking Preston to two Championship play-offs before leading Derby to the Premier League so he has a first-rate pedigree at this level.
"Billy is a big ball of fire. He stands for no nonsense but at the same time is very fair. He will reward those with a good attitude who work hard and deliver what he wants.
"But there would be no more Easy Street. And that is what it has been at the City Ground for far too long.

Curbs holding out for top job

Former West Ham boss Alan Curbishley says he is holding out for a return to Premier League management.
The former Hammers and Charlton chief has been out of work since walking away from Upton Park in September.
He has been strongly linked with the vacant posts at Coca-Cola Championship clubs Nottingham Forest and Derby, with both having recently parted with their managers.
However Curbishley has been quick to play down the speculation, making it clear that he would favour a return to top-flight action.
"No disrespect to the clubs out there at the moment, but I've been a Premier League manager for the last 10 years and that's where I want to go back to if I can," he told Sky Sports News.
"We'll have to see what happens.
"Once you've been in the Premier League, if you talk to anyone about it, that's where you want to be and I think I have earned the right to go back in there if there is an opportunity for me."

Forest draw up shortlist of five

Nottingham Forest have drawn up a shortlist of five potential managers as they look to make an appointment before the weekend.
Chief executive Mark Arthur revealed today that the club have been delighted with the quality of the applicants since Colin Calderwood's departure.
And, while he refused to confirm whether the likes of Billy Davies, Alan Pardew, Alan Curbishley, Ian Dowie and Adie Boothroyd were among the men the club are considering, he did admit: "We are looking for somebody with Championship experience."
Arthur continued: "We have got our list down to four or five potential candidates and we hope to make an appointment in the next few days. Certainly, we would like to have somebody in place before the weekend.
"Since it was announced that Colin was leaving we have been very pleased with the number and the quality of the applicants.
"It would be unfair to name names, because some of them are still in employment with other clubs. But we would prefer somebody who has experience of managing at a Championship level."

Clough plays down Forest speculation

NIGEL Clough has refused to be drawn on speculation linking him with the vacant manager's job at Nottingham Forest.
Fellow ex-Forest star and Evening Post columnist Garry Birtles says now is the right time for Forest to move for Clough. The 42-year-old has also been linked with Derby after the resignation of Paul Jewell.
Clough said: "I have had no contact with either club and I will just get on with doing my job at Burton, as always. I would rather talk about the ten games we have won on the bounce. I don't want anything to detract from that because it is a remarkable achievement. All my mind is on is our game with York on Thursday."

Forest boss: Striker is priority

COLIN Calderwood has put a striker at the top of Nottingham Forest's January shopping list - with Motherwell's Chris Porter believed to be among the prime targets.
"We need to bring another striker to the club if we can," he said.
"We will always need that option. We are one injury away from having nobody on the bench who can make a difference - and we can't have that.
"I know we brought in Joe and Robert this summer, but other clubs have brought in strikers since then.
"We will look to make a difference in that position now, and will consider loan signings as well as permanent additions where possible."

Exclusive: Nottingham Forest target Rangers star Charlie Adam

NOTTINGHAM FOREST will attempt to take Charlie Adam off Rangers' payroll when the January sales open.
The midfielder is one of a number of players to have been told they can leave Ibrox in the transfer window if the right offer comes in.
Adam is just two seasons into a five-year contract but has failed to find a regular place in Walter Smith's side and the manager wants to cash in on him to bring in new faces to bolster their title hopes.
Forest have watched both 22-year-old Adam and Chris Burke, who is also available for transfer, many times.
