Nottingham Forest let a three goal lead slip as their dreams of an FA Youth Cup semi-final were dashed at the hands of Chelsea.
The home side led 3-0 at half time before a second half comeback from the visitors.
In an exciting opening 15 minutes both sides enjoyed chances - Lucas Piazon had a surging run and shot saved by Forest keeper Dimitar Evtimov, while at the other end Lawrence Gorman and Ben Osborn had shots kept out by Chelsea stopper Jamal Blackman.
And it was Forest who took the lead after 13 minutes. After Chelsea could not clear the ball inside their area, David Morgan controlled the ball and slammed home a superb volley from 18 yards.
The home side were rampant after breaking the deadlock, with Morgan again testing Blackman from a free-kick, and Kieran Wallace firing another free-kick over on 34 minutes.
Two minutes later Forest doubled their advantage. Jack Blake crossed from the right and as Jamaal Lascelles got a flick on, the ball cannoned in off Chelsea centre-back Nathan Ake.
Chelsea looked to hit back and their best chance of the half fell again to Piazon, but after playing a one-two with Amin Affane on the edge of the area his shot was well saved by Evtimov.
Forest looked to extend their lead and did on 41 minutes with an excellent goal. Lascelles nodded a corner down to Jordan Palmer-Samuels, who, with his back to goal, cleverly backheeled the ball into the net.
After the half-time break Chelsea started brightly, and their pressure paid off on 53 minutes. Piazon, who threatened in the first half, broke down the right, and as he advanced into the area, cut back onto his right foot to rifle home.
The visitors kept the pressure up and made it 3-2 on 64 minutes. Islam Feruz wasn't picked up as a ball was played through the centre, and his angled shot went past Evtimov into his right-hand corner.
The equaliser came seven minutes later, through Feruz once again, who headed in a corner from the left at the near post.
Feruz came close to his hat-trick on 79 minutes, but his shot from point-blank range was brilliantly stopped by Evtimov.
However Chelsea's comeback was completed on 87 minutes. Piazon was left unchallenged and his shot was spilled by Evitmov into the path of Alex Kiwomya, who tapped in from four yards.
Forest couldn't respond as Chelsea advance into the semi-finals of the competition.
