Nottingham Forest kicked off their first home game of the totesport.com reserve league with a 3-2 win against Barnsley at
The City Ground on a fine late summer evening.
The Reds fielded a strong side with six players with first team experience.
It took 11 minutes before Forest got the breakthrough when Robbie Gibbons broke on the left and put a ball through to
Nathan Tyson who turned and put the ball past David Preece in the Barnsley goal.
6 minutes later Ben Carlisle set up a similar goal for Michael Boulding to shoot home from inside the box past
Paul Smith.
With Forest pushing forward both
Dele Adebola and
Nathan Tyson were both brought down in the box and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot for Tyson to score his second of the night on 25 minutes.
Adebola was replaced by Nialle Rodney after 30 minutes.
With Tyson seemingly being involved in everything up front he released Rodney on the right to score a third hard into the top of the net after 34 minutes.
Barnsley started the second half on the attack and after 5 minutes from the restart they got one back when Jacob Butterfield followed up on a Smith save to run the ball into the net.
The Reds managed to hang on to their lead as the game became a succession of high and speculative shots from both sides
