Billy Laments 'Poor' Goals

Posted on: Mon 02 Aug 2010
Billy Davies warned there was work to do after watching his Forest side slip to 3-2 defeat in the final pre-season friendly.

Kelvin Wilson's second-half own goal, on his return from injury, consigned the Reds to defeat at League One Swindon Town on Saturday, after Garath McCleary had struck twice in the first half.

After the game, a disappointed Davies said: "We lost very poor goals today."

The Reds were without a number of recognised firstteam players, with Wes Morgan, Paul McKenna, Paul Anderson, Nathan Tyson, Joel Lynch and David McGoldrick all missing through injury.

And Davies added: "At the end we had a lot of young players on. They're not quite ready in terms of experience or fitness."

However, the Forest boss did draw some positives from the game.

"It was good experience for the younger players and I think we have got another good fitness exercise under our belts," he said.

And Davies praised McCleary's first-half performance. "In the first-half he was bright and played well," he said.

"In the second half he got caught in possession too much and gave it away, but he is what he is. He got two good goals and had a good 45 minutes."

Davies said he was looking for McCleary to push on and improve his consistency in the coming season.

"He may get a lot of opportunities," he said.

"He's got to understand the door is wide open but he's got to stake a claim for that with consistent performances."
