Nottingham Forest kick-started their campaign of pre-season games in fine style - by winning in Portugal for the second successive year.
Twelve months after beating Sporting Lisbon, they made it two out of two with a 2-1 win over S.C. Olhanense at the Estádio José Arcanjo.
Robert Earnshaw, last season's leading scorer, quickly found himself back on the goals trail as he fired Forest into a first half lead.
Matt Thornhill, looking to impress manager Billy Davies after spending most of last season out on loan, doubled the lead shortly before half-time on a sultry evening in the Algarve.
Olhanense pulled a goal back in the second half but Forest claimed the spoils to get their warm-up campaign off to a successful start.
Forest used 20 players, giving at least 45 minutes worth of action to all those given a run-out. Only
Chris Gunter and
Garath McCleary played the full 90 minutes.
Only
Joel Lynch, who has a slight back problem, and young goalkeeper Karl Darlow weren't involved.
Assistant manager Ned Kelly said: "It was an excellent work-out and, most importantly, we came through the game without picking up any injuries."
The Reds have one more full day left in Portugal - they will train at their HQ Barrington's tomorrow - before flying back to England on Monday.
They will step-up their preparations for the new npower Championship season on Wednesday with games against Mansfield and Tranmere at Field Mill and Prenton Park respectively (both games kick-off at 7.30pm).
First half line-up: Camp, Chambers, Wilson, Anderson, Earnshaw, McCleary, Garner, Cohen, Gunter, McKenna, Thornhill.
Second half line-up: Smith, Morgan, McGugan, Moussi, Blackstock, Moloney, Majewski, Bennett, Tyson, Gunter, McCleary.
