Scunthorpe Preview

Posted on: Thu 29 Apr 2010

Nottingham Forest will round off their programme of fixtures in the regular Championship season against Scunthorpe at Glanford Park on Sunday (kick-off 1pm).
Victory for The Reds will guarantee them a third-placed finish, although a point may also be enough.
They are, however, without a win in their last eight league games on the road and will be keen to set that record straight as they head into the play-offs.
For Scunthorpe, it has been mission accomplished this season - their first back in the Championship.
Survival was the aim for Nigel Adkins and his men and they done just what, amassing 51 points from their 45 games so far.

Team news

Billy Davies is likely to make changes to his Forest line-up as he continues his preparations for the play-offs.
That could open the way for the likes of Joel Lynch, Joe Garner, David McGoldrick and Dele Adebola to get some valuable match practice.
The Reds will again be without club captain Paul McKenna and Julian Bennett.
Scunthorpe, meanwhile, hope to welcome back Rob Jones, a one-time transfer target for Forest, Michael Raynes and Jim McNulty after injury.

Their key man
Gary Hooper
The goals of Gary Hooper have been a key component of Scunthorpe's successful battle to stay in the Championship.
The former Southend man has scored 20 league and cup goals this season, following on from the 30 he grabbed last term - his first at Glanford Park.
With each goal, he has enhanced his reputation and he has been linked with moves into the Premiership - Wigan and Wolves are reported to be trailing him - as well as Celtic.

What the record books say

Forest and Scunthorpe have only met on seven previous occasions in league and cup football … and both sides have three victories to their credit.
It was The Reds who claimed the spoils earlier in the season at The City Ground as they ran out 2-0 winners.
Late goals from Luke Chambers and Dexter Blackstock earned Billy Davies' men victory on a night that had threatened to be a frustrating affair.
Scunthorpe goalkeeper Joe Murphy underlined his big reputation as he produced a string of outstanding saves to keep Forest at bay.
Chambers, Chris Gunter and Nathan Tyson were denied by the visitors' No.1 before Chambers finally found a way past him.
The defender gave Forest the lead 20 minutes from time, powering home a header from a Chris Cohen corner.
They doubled their lead - and effectively sealed their win - six minutes later as Blackstock converted from close range after Paul Anderson had sent over a low cross from the right.
Scunthorpe went close to pulling a goal back seven minutes from time but Jonathan Forte was denied by Lee Camp, who palmed his shot against the woodwork.
