Billy Davies insists there is still an upbeat mood within his Nottingham Forest squad.
The third-placed Reds are currently eight points off the automatic promotion pace with just nine games remaining.
Boss Davies still believes his side can mount a serious challenge to West Brom as they prepare for back-to-back home games against Peterborough tomorrow (kick-off 3pm) and Crystal Palace on Tuesday.
"I don't think the players have been down," he says. "They shouldn't be because we're still where we are: third in the league and in a very strong position.
"We've had a great season, even though over the last number of games away from home we've been indifferent.
"There's no reason to be down. We're not in a relegation battle and we're not in mid-table obscurity.
"We're in a very strong position and I still genuinely believe if we can pick up some good results then many things could happen between now and the end of the season."
Forest's fortunes away from home may have taken a dip but they will be gunning for an 11th successive home league against a Peterborough side rooted to the foot of the Championship.
They are eight points adrift of safety and boss Jim Gannon has publicly written off their chances of avoiding the drop.
But Davies believes that could make them difficult opposition for his side.
"I've said all along that if you've got nothing to play for and you can go out there and play without any pressure then it can be slightly easier," he adds.
"We have to deal with playing under pressure, having to win to stay in the top area, and it's a different ball game.
"But we've got to learn to handle that and irrespective of who we're playing against we've got to be up for the fight and battle and compete as we have done over the last game and a half."
