Toffees Book Spot In Women's Showpiece

Posted on: Mon 15 Mar 2010
Everton Ladies have reached The FA Women's Cup Final after a hard-fought victory over conquerors of Forest Ladies, Barnet in the Semi-Final on Sunday.

Goals from England internationals Nathasha Dowie and Fara Williams were enough for the Toffees, who will now meet either Arsenal or Chelsea in The Final at The City Ground on 3 May.

Barnet, however, made a real fight of it and almost took the lead in the first half when Cheryl Williams hit the bar while Danielle Murphy and Hollly Sandow also went close.

But two minutes into the second half Dowie put Everton ahead, taking full advantage of a defensive mix-up to fire home the opener.

Everton captain Williams then completed victory for Mo Marley's side in style, scoring in the 86th minute with a spectacular overhead kick.

It was a disappointment for the battling Bees but manager Tracey Kevins insisted she was proud of her side.

"They were absolutely fantastic," she said. "We were unlucky not to be ahead at half-time and our supporters sang non-stop for 90 minutes."

Everton now await the winners of the Arsenal v Chelsea Semi-Final which will take place on Sunday 4 April.
