BD’s Backing Camp

Posted on: Fri 12 Mar 2010

Billy Davies believes Lee Camp can fill the Nottingham Forest void left by Paul McKenna's injury setback.

Skipper McKenna is facing several weeks on the sidelines after sustaining a knee injury against Swansea last weekend.

Vice-captain Camp will take possession of the armband for the foreseeable future, starting tomorrow when The Reds meet Preston at Deepdale (kick-off 3pm).

And boss Davies believes the goalkeeper will prove to be a more than adequate deputy.

"Quite often at the training ground we hear Lee before we actually see him," says Davies. "He's a great character.

"I've said before that what we need most between now and the end of the season is big personality and Lee has got that in abundance.

"Right throughout our side I think our other young players have got to take a leaf out of his book and realise that's what it is going to take for us to carry on winning games of football."

Forest have not experienced a winning sensation on their travels since beating West Brom back in January and are looking to bring their run of five successive away day defeats to an end as they head to Lancashire.

"The Championship seems to be all about highs and lows," Davies adds. "Breaks go for you just as much as they go against you and we've got to accept that.

"We went 10 months unbeaten away from home and have taken a few defeats on the spin so to speak.

"Performance-wise two or three of them have been very good and very unfortunate.

"But I'm still very confident in this bunch of players and what they can achieve."

Davies will be back on familiar territory tomorrow, having had his first taste of management in English football at Deepdale.

He reveals: "I had a wonderful four years at Preston and have nothing but good memories.

"I had a great relationship while I was there with the players, staff and directors - everyone - and I'm looking forward to going back.

"Obviously there are little issues that have developed over the past, basically things created out of nothing I think."
