Nottingham Forest never gave up the fight and increased their winning run to five games after a stoppage time goal gave them a hard-earned victory over Barnsley.

Forest dominated much of the first half but Barnsley defended well to contain the Forest attack and, although the home side had the majority of the chances, the first half finished on level terms.

Barnsley threatened more in the second half and created some good chances, which Forest defended well. Barnsley also defended in numbers and looked like they would take away a share of the points until Forest's stoppage time winner.

Barnsley started well and won a free kick after just a minute after a clumsy tackle by Wes Morgan just out side the D. Iain Hume took the shot and, with Lee Camp rooted to the spot, the ball curled off the top of the crossbar and out.

Barnsley threatened more in the opening minutes while Forest were slow to get into their stride, but by the tenth minute they looked more in control.

There were calls for a penalty when Paul Anderson went down under a challenge from Darren Moore but the referee could see that neither player had any chance of playing the ball so waved play on.

Forest won a free kick inside the D after Dexter Blackstock did well to flick the ball on to David McGoldrick. He got round Moore but the Barnsley defender pushed him over just inches outside the penalty area. But the resulting free kick went straight into the wall.

Forest came close seconds later with a superb ball across the face of goal by Blackstock where it found McGoldrick at the far post. He made an effort to stretch far enough to get on the end of it and stuck out his leg, but his effort went off the bar from a yard out and back into play.

McGoldrick missed a great chance to take the lead when he made a break from midfield. He was clearly waiting for the offside flag to go up but when it stayed down he continued running forward, one on one with the Barnsley keeper, but when he eventually made his shot Luke Steele blocked the ball with his legs.

Forest continued have most of the possession but Barnsley defended in numbers and closed Forest down well.

This was the case following a lovely cross by Nathan Tyson to McGoldrick but, with the ball under his feet, he was quickly surrounded by Barnsley defenders and was unable to get a shot in.

After a subdued period of play the game to life in stoppage time. Barnsley had their first shot on target with a good effort from Jonathan Macken whose low shot saw Camp diving to his right to make the save.

Forest were quickly on the break and Paul Anderson made a great run down the left before putting a low cross over to Blackstock whose effort from eight yards forced a stoppage time save from Steele.

Anderson again got the ball wide on the left and sent the ball across the face of goal but this time there were no takers.

Forest continued to struggle to break Barnsley down in the early stages of the second half but they had them beaten when Paul McKenna picked out Tyson with a lovely ball forward. His run took him clear, but he dragged the ball across the face of goal and out the other side.

Barnsley put the Forest goal under pressure on the hour mark after Adam Hammill pushed Chris Cohen out of the way to get a shot in which was well saved by Camp.

And Stephen Foster also missed a chance to give his side the lead when he headed wide from inside the penalty area.

Barnsley kept up the pressure with a great cross from Hammill who got away from Cohen and crossed to substitute Julian Gray who headed into the side netting from a tight angle.

Radoslaw Majewski, who had been rested due to a heavy cold, was brought on to replace Tyson, who limped slightly as he went off with 24 minutes remaining.

Majewski's first job was to take a corner which he sent in beautifully and the ball went off the back of Moore's head and just over the crossbar for another corner. Blackstock went down in the crush and after receiving treatment he was replaced by Dele Adebola.

As Forest still looked to break down the Barnsley defence their final substitution saw Joe Garner come on for Anderson.

Forest kept up the pressure with two shots in quick succession by Majewski which were both blocked by Moore before the ball was put out for another Forest corner.

Barnsley looked dangerous on the break and after a part clearance by Cohen the ball fell for Emil Hallfredsson whose shot forced Camp to dive to his left and stretch both arms to punch the ball out for a corner.

Just as it looked like the game was drifting away from Forest they got the winner two minutes into stoppage time. It came from a long ball forward by McKenna which was chested down by Adebola to Moussi who shot low into the right corner from 12 yards out.

Moussi went to the Trent End to celebrate his first Forest goal, but was then sent off for his over-zealous celebration, having picked up a second yellow card.
