Billy Davies has reassured his Nottingham Forest players they will be rewarded for their excellent performances sooner rather than later.

The Reds are still looking for their first Championship win of the season as they head into tonight's City Ground clash with Watford (kick-off 7.45pm)

Davies saw his side dominate against promotion favourites West Brom on Saturday and create a host of goal-scoring opportunities.

They failed to make any of them count - and also missed a penalty - as they slipped to an unfortunate 1-0 defeat.

But the manager told us: "I haven't had to pick any of the players up because they all know we were hard done by and they were very fortunate.

"We played extremely well. We all know we could have scored four or five goals in the second half, we all know that we were undone by having a perfectly good goal disallowed and their lucky goal.

"When there are so many positives, there's no need to be down.

"I've said to the players that if they keep doing what they are doing, there's no doubt this Forest side will get better and better."

Watford are in a similar boat to Forest with one draw and one defeat from their opening Championship games.

But Davies adds: "Looking back on the West Brom game, there will be the same old stories trotted out: that we're still waiting our first win in the league and still waiting for our first goal in the league ... the cup is always half empty never half full.

"But from our point of view it's certainly half full.

"It was a wonderful performance at Reading, a great three goals and performance against Bradford in the Carling Cup and we really kicked-on against West Brom in the second half.

"We competed against a side that has been together quite a long time and is just out of the Premier League.

"The start we've had - away to Reading and home to West Brom - doesn't get much tougher than that.

"I'm sure the Forest fans are delighted with what they've seen. They will be disappointed with our points return obviously because of what we should have got against West Brom."
