Billy Davies admitted his mood changed from disappointment to delight after Nottingham Forest had ended the season with a 3-1 win over Southampton at The City Ground.

The Forest boss saw his side stretch their unbeaten run to six games and then confessed: "I wasn't very happy at half-time because we looked like a team ready for the beach in the first half.

"That's partly my fault because I gave the players a few days off this week and in hindsight it was probably not the brightest thing to do.

"But I've got to say that the players have yet again shown great courage to turn things around and get the result we wanted.

"They have done that time after time in the last few months and they have shown it again today by eventually winning the match.

"I have to give Southampton great credit for the performance they put in. They made it very difficult for us and I am disappointed for them that they are going down.

"But we showed the courage and the bottle once more to finish off the season on a high and give our fans a good send off.

"At the end of the match I wanted to thank the fans for their tremendous support a hopefully we can move forward from here."
