Colin Calderwood is backing Nathan Tyson to end his Nottingham Forest goal drought and believes the striker has already shown he can made the grade in the Championship.

It's almost three months since the 26 year old scored his only goal of the season but he retains the full support of his manager.

Tyson is expected to spearhead Forest's attack in tomorrow's Championship date with Bristol City at Ashton Gate (kick-off 3pm).

Calderwood was delighted with his display in last weekend's 1-1 draw with high-flying Birmingham but reveals: "I think he's a little concerned that he hasn't scored more goals because he's a forward but in some games he has been limited in his chances.

"But what he gave us on Saturday was beyond just thinking about scoring a goal.

"He had Birmingham worried for a lot of the afternoon.

"At some stage Nathan will get away and score a goal - he's just got to believe that people like him who are progressing up through the divisions are of a Championship standard.

"There's no doubt about it that he is because everyone is scared of him.

"His reward doesn't always have to be in terms of goals for. I think his reward comes with us producing a good performance and taking a point against Birmingham.

"We need to start getting wins and if they come without him scoring, he's not to be too disillusioned by that."

After three games on the bench, Tyson returned to the starting line-up against Birmingham to deputise for the injured Robert Earnshaw and used his pace to run Alex McLeish's side ragged in the second half.

Calderwood adds: "He has come back and taken the bull by the horns if I'm honest. He produced a really good display against Birmingham.

"What really excites me is the way he has been in training this week because it has lifted me.

"To a man everyone in the dressing room told him how well he played on Saturday - I think they were lifted by his performance as well."
