Nottingham Forest's Under 18s were beaten by their arch rivals Derby County after conceding a late penalty.

Coach Chris Fairclough had no complaints about the award of the spot-kick, which Derby duly converted to seal a 2-1 win.

Instead, he was more disappointed with his side's display. "We produced what I would call a below-par performance," he told us.

"We started quite brightly and took the lead early on but we didn't defend particularly well as a team and Derby punished us."

There were few signs of the problems that lay ahead as Forest took a fifth minute lead through Tom Mullen, who side footed home Ryan Whitehurst's cross from six yards out.

Whitehurst was forced out of the game through injury midway through the first half, which disrupted Forest's progress.

Fairclough added: "I've no problems with the referee's decision to award Derby a penalty. It looked like a penalty at the time and having watched it again on DVD I'm still of that opinion."
