Green Day For Reds

Posted on: Wed 27 Aug 2008

Nottingham Forest are eyeing up a Carling Cup upset as they and Sunderland prepare to pay tribute to a legend.

Supporters from both clubs are being urged to wear green at tonight's second round tie at The City Ground (kick-off 7.45pm) in honour of former Forest manager and Sunderland striker Brian Clough.

He made a distinctive green sweatshirt his trademark during his 18-year Forest reign and Colin Calderwood says: "I hope the fans get into the spirit of things with the idea of wearing green.

"That would be a nice tribute to Brian and what he achieved for both clubs and hopefully the game itself will prove to be fitting tribute as well.

"It's a really attractive fixture and obviously Roy Keane returning to Forest is an added ingredient.

"A lot of fans turned up to the pre-season game because Roy was coming back for the first time as a manager but hopefully we'll get a decent crowd this time around as well.

"We deserve a decent crowd for the football the boys have played so far."

Forest were sunk by a Kieran Richardson goal when they met Sunderland in a friendly on Trentside last month but boss Calderwood does not believe that game will have any bearing on tonight's contest.

"I think it will be another open game and it will be a test - for them as well as us," he adds.

"The pre-season game was a fairly relaxed affair, although I think it was an excellent game. It was competitive but there was nothing out-of-order to any degree.

"In games like that you have the luxury of being able to use so many substitutes but it will be a different thought process tonight."

Forest will go into tonight's game buoyed by Saturday's win over Watford - their first Championship success of the campaign.

Calderwood, however, is refusing to get too carried away.

"I don't want to play down what we achieved on Saturday too much but it's our job and we cannot be lulled into thinking that one win makes everything alright," he insists.

"We've got to look at what we did right and try and replicate it time after time."

Tickets for the game, priced £15 for adults, £10 for seniors and £5 for under 16s, can be purchased in person from the Forest Ticket Office; by calling 0871 226 1980 or on-line at www.nottinghamforest.co.uk.
