Nottingham Forest's French Connection has been strengthened yet further by the arrival of Mickael Darnet.

The 18 year old striker has joined The Reds from AS Cannes on a one-year contract after being recommended to the club by David Friio.

Former Forest midfielder Friio is now the club's scout in France and was responsible for alerting Colin Calderwood to Guy Moussi.

Darnet has wasted little in making an impression at The City Ground and lined-up for Forest in their 3-1 win at Burton Albion last night.

Calderwood said: "Mickael is another boy who had been recommended to us by David. He played very well for the reserves against Sheffield United last week and scored two goals.

"It was an opportune moment to give him a game with more senior members of the squad in front of a crowd. I think he'll learn and benefit from playing against Burton but I think we'll look for improvement as well.

"He's a tough little character. He's obviously quiet to a degree because he's not fluent in the language but he's learning English at the moment, along with Guy Moussi, and we have Hamza Bencherif in the dressing room to help them both."
