Nottingham Forest are still looking for their first away win of the season, but would have been more than happy with the performance that gave them a share of the points.
It couldn't have started better for Forest, who took the lead in the second minute and held onto that lead until near the end of the first half when Wednesday got an equalizer after putting considerable pressure on the Forest defence.
The second half was fairly equally match with play fluctuating from one end to the other and both sides creating chances.
Forest had chances to win the game with Dexter Blackstock coming close to adding to his tally on several occasions. Wes Morgan defended brilliantly to frustrate Wednesday and Paul Anderson was thrilling to watch.
There were two changes forced on the Forest starting line-up, with Radoslaw Majewski picking up an injury on the training ground and Nathan Tyson becoming a father again last night. Joel Lynch, only just coming back from injury this week, was brought into the back four and Paul Anderson also returned to the starting eleven.
It was a perfect start to the game for Forest who created a good chance in the opening minute with a superb break forward. Dexter Blackstock picked up Chris Cohen's ball forward and passed to Paul Anderson, who belted forward and squared the ball to Joe Garner. He must have thought he was going to get his first goal of the season, only to see Lee Grant dive low to his right to produce an excellent save.
But a minute later Forest did find the back of the net to take the lead in the second minute. Anderson crossed to Blackstock as he timed his run to get on the end of the ball while the Wednesday defence stood still expecting him to be offside. But the flag stayed down and Blackstock headed the ball neatly into the bottom right of the net.
Wednesday had a half chance when Marcus Tudgay, under pressure from the Forest defence, hooked the ball towards goal, forcing Lee Camp to react quickly to tip the ball over.
Wednesday continued to threaten going forward, but gave the ball away on a number of occasions when they should have had Forest beaten.
Forest made another good break when Blackstock passed to Anderson who got away well before pulling the ball back to an onrushing Blackstock. He somehow managed to blaze the ball wide, sinking to his knees in disbelief on the six-yard line.
Several excellent tackles by Wes Morgan stopped Wednesday in their tracks as they further threatened the Forest defence. And when Tommy Miller shot from the edge of the penalty area Camp made an easy save.
Another great block by Morgan only temporarily cleared the danger as Wednesday equalized seven minutes from the break, when Tudgay's shot from the edge of the box took a slight deflection and wrong-footed Camp, allowing the ball to go past him and into the bottom right of the goal.
Jermaine Johnson threatened to put Wednesday in the lead in the 45th minute but in the end he scuffed his shot wide from 20 yards.
Garath McCleary came out in place of Garner for the start of the second half, the Forest striker having picked up his fourth yellow card of the season in the first.
Forest were soon under pressure and it was Blackstock, helping out at the back, who scrambled the ball away after it ran between a crowd of Forest players and fell for Varney to attempt a shot.
Anderson made another great break for Forest, getting away from Lewis Buxton and making a great run before squaring the ball across the face of goal, but David McGoldrick couldn't get a touch on the ball.
Anderson's pace threatened as he again fed the ball to McGoldrick who sent the ball across to Blackstock who couldn't quite get a shot on target.
When Wednesday got forward, a brilliant interception by Morgan prevented Buxton from taking a shot at goal.
Anderson's brilliant afternoon continued when he got everything behind the ball and saw it dipping down, only for it to be tipped over by Grant.
McGugan had three chances in a row, the first blocked by Burton, the second from a corner which was caught by Grant and the third in the 83rd minute was mis-kicked and went over the bar.
Lee Camp made an easy save from Michael Gray's shot but then went down after hitting the bar, but was able to carry on after treatment.
Blackstock was less lucky, going down clutching his knee after several players collided and he had to be replaced by Lewis McGugan.
The injuries and substitutions resulted in five minutes stoppage time off in which Chris Gunter made a superb break and put the ball across to Adebola, who had the ball taken off his toe by Grant.
Wednesday won a free kick on the edge of the D but to Forest's relief, Darren Potter took it poorly and sent the ball flying over the crossbar.
As the home fans left in their thousands, the travelling supporters got behind their team, willing in a late winner, but in the end they had to be satisfied with a well-earned point.
