Nottingham Forest got their first League win of the season against local rivals Derby County.
In a classic game of two halves, Forest saw their three goal first half lead cut down to one as Derby dominated the second half.
Nottingham Forest dominated the first half with some excellent football, putting three goals past an ineffective Derby defence.
It was a different Derby side that came out after the break and two quick goals put them right back into the game.It remained tense right up to the final whistle as Forest lost their composure, but hung on to take all three points.
The atmosphere was electric in a packed City Ground, and it increased dramatically when Forest scored in the first minute.
Chris Gunter's shot was blocked and the ball was only cleared as far as Radoslaw Majewski whose powerful shot from 25 yards gave Stephen Bywater no chance as the ball flew past him.
Derby had a chance from a free kick following a foul by Joe Garner on Dean Moxey, but Lee Camp gathered up Robbie Savage's effort with ease.
Forest looked dangerous every time they got forward but also defended well when when Derby did make a break and Camp had no problem stopping Rob Hulse's effort from the right.
After more pressure from Forest the ball only went out as far as Chris Cohen whose shot from 30 yards missed Forest's strikers and went just wide of the post.
Forest increased their lead in the 27th minute when Kris Commons fouled Garner on the right. A beautifully taken free kick by Cohen curled through the six-yard box and found Dexter Blackstock who appeared to head down from the left of the box and into the bottom corner, although it might have gone in off the head of Hulse.
The Derby supporters thought they had got a goal back after a harsh decision against Cohen awarded them a free kick. Camp made a good save from the first effort and Rob Hulse nodded in the rebound but the referee had blown after spotting some pulling and shoving.
Derby had another chance five minutes before half time when Stephen Pearson fed the ball through to Hulse from midfield. He made a good run forward but Camp came out to close him down and did well to block the ball.
Forest were three up in the 42nd minute after an excellent Paul Mckenna won the ball off Commons and chipped it across to Blackstock. He held the ball up for Nathan Tyson who timed his run to perfection and put the ball neatly round Bywater inside the penalty box.
Commons was substituted at half time, to loud cheers from the home supporters.
Derby had a goal back five minutes into the half with an effort by Miles Addison who half fell as he tried an overhead kick which hit Wes Morgan and the ball bobbled low into the corner with Camp, thrown by the deflection, just standing watching it.
Derby were fired up from the start of the half, picking up the tempo and putting them right back in the game.
Blackstock got a standing ovation as he was replaced by Dele Adebola ten minutes into the half.
But Derby came a step closer to evening things up just after the hour mark when substitute Lee Croft headed the ball towards goal. Jake Livermore got on the end of it and the ball took a slight deflection before going past a bewildered looking Camp.
This was followed by another Forest substitution, with Garner coming off for Garath McCleary.
Forest came back to life and broke forward with a cross from Tyson to Adebola whose header went straight into the arms of Bywater.
Forest's final substitution saw McGoldrick make way for Robert Earnshaw, who went to play up front with Adebola.
Fores regained some of their composure and put real pressure on Derby for the first time in the half.
But Derby were soon pushing forward and the Forest defence were in panic again.
As Forest won a free kick and got forward again Billy Davies was out of his dugout, urging the City Ground crowd to get behind their side.
As the game drew to a close the Forest manager was practically on the pitch as he shouted instructions to his players.
After an altercation which saw McCleary booked for a challenge on Savage, play was again delayed when McKenna was fouled by substitute Paul Dickov. Forest had to finish the five minutes stoppage time with ten men and the Forest captain was carried off limping badly.
Derby won a late throw-in which Paul Connolly sent all the way into the penalty box where Camp grabbed the ball out of the air.
A tense eight minutes stoppage time saw both sides getting forward but when Forest won a goal kick the referee finally blew the whistle.
