It was the most remarkable start to the game as Leicester City showed great sportsmanship in allowing Forest to score in the opening seconds. They nominated Paul Smith to score. The first half was evenly matched with Leicester equalizing from a free kick on the half hour and the game was all level after 45 minutes. Forest produced some good attacking football in the second half and were rewarded with a goal just after the hour mark. But in spite of almost continuous pressure they conceded two goals in the dying seconds of the game to make an early exit from the Carling Cup.
